Joining Social Groups (New Members)

Hi Mods

I've set up a group (skiing and snowboarding in Switzerland). I've been asked by a couple of new members why they can't join the group. Do they have limited privilages as they are new members (similar to the number of private messages that can be sent) or are they missing the "join" icon on teh homepage of the social group?

Thanks for your help.

Gully

The Social Group can be viewed here:

I tested with a newbie account and it worked fine.

Re: Joining Social Groups (New Members)

I don't think we heard anything official, but we worked out here that you probably do need to pass the usual new member rules (10 posts, 1 week) to join social groups.

Edit : Hmmm. Beaten to it by JR's Pet. His answer seems pretty comprehensive. It would appear to be just "one of those things" then. Some people can join groups. Some people can't.

More screenshots, just in case, tested with a newbie account with zero posts ( NewEFMember ):

Re: Joining Social Groups (New Members)

Though "New"EFMember has been a member for nearly three years (no posts). So there could still be some sort of restriction.

Need more research JR.

(I'd do it myself, but I think I'd get done.)

Re: Joining Social Groups (New Members)

If there were restrictions in place by system software ( such as minimum number of days of membership ), it would likely only be to deter off spammers, which have in the past been "attacking" certain groups with 100s of spam messages and adverts.

Re: Joining Social Groups (New Members)

I just joined, not sure why it's not working for some.

Do they know what linky to click on? If they are newbies, maybe they overlook the icon, it's tiny.

Now, where did I put those skis..

The previous thread has a screen shot where the user showed the screen without the link. It definitely seems to be missing.
