I think the point is.......you've posted quite a lot about something you profess to be unbothered about

Re: who gives these greens and who removes ( reputation )

I have to say its a pretty good indicator of the poster, and looking at some of the posts the people complaining made I can see why they got em, I probably gave them lol.

You join a forum and make stupid posts, question the rules, insult members who give a hell of a lot to the community, and your going to get groaned / blobbied

Join up and be a one subject poster, as your going to get em.

Before you moan even more, and rep whore, maybe take a look at what some of the high rep members give to the forum (ok DB aside ) then ask yourself what you bring to the community.

What is you really want to say? You seem to be discussing "facts", posting a number of dots...... as if to allude to something not being mentioned, or an emoticon to depict your feelings on the matter.

Don't be shy, if you have something to say, then say/type it?
The art of subtlety is dying. Or at least, the art of discerning subtlety. OK, so here's my comment, longhand:

The "facts" are that across the forum, far more positive (green) rep is given than negative. This is easily verified by looking at the list of rep scores and calculating (if you could be bothered) the difference between the total positive score and the total negative score. I'll wager it's substantially >0, i.e. positive, i.e green. In fact I'll bet the positive rep score of one certain poster alone is greater than the aggregate of all negative scores. I think your observation of the distribution of rep is biased by your personal situation, where until now negative has outweighed positive.

Next, your assertion that you ignore rep altogether isn't quite supported by your ten posts (to date) on this thread about rep. In particular, these ones:

And throughout this debate, I notice out the corner of my eye an emergence of a green blob
Quote:

Make that a couple
... and you're even sufficiently in touch with your rep to be able to quote one of the comments left there. All of this seems to suggest that actually, you do care about rep. Don't you think? Well, I think so -- hence my use of the emoticon.

All clear?

Re: who gives these greens and who removes ( reputation )

When the first forum I used brought in a rating system IMHO it had a detrimental effect.

Much as people try to ignore them or say they are not affected the vast majority of us like to be liked and feel popular or feel that what we have to say is relevant, useful, funny or clever. So we want to earn them and the problem is the distribution of such accolades are always far too arbitrary. A point that has been consistently raised in this thread.

Yes sometimes a swathe of thanks on a post does equate with a good post, often though someone will have said something very similar further up the thread and been completely ignored. Me thinks the popularity of the poster does hold too much sway.

I did get it, was waiting for someone to point it out tho.....

Ahhh I see, ye olde classic forum vet approach of, you must be bothered if you are to debate a topic. As opposed to, you have an opinion on the public forum.

If I give my opinion on prostitution does it mean I am bothered about it??

You are bothered enough about it to read the thread and give your opinion so I'd say "yes". If you weren't bothered, you would have ignored the topic.

So, clear ignorance of the blatant example I used to prove otherwise.

I merely sense a growing disgruntled crowd of being found out

Since you are the thread starter and not the thread hijacker, I think you deserve a response.

The green blobs showing on your posts are not directly representative of your net reputation score. (Just think, mark would have 1,000,000 green blobs if that were the case.) They represent your reputation level. Mouse over the blobs to see your current level.

Rating

Hi,

I'm new to the English Forum. How come my rating/status is:

"Nadia has become a little unpopular" with two red cards next to my name?

How rates me and can I see who rated me and why the bad rating?
