I like it here now ( about this forum )

I have no complaints, no whining, no yearning for the good old days, no watching what is going on over the fence, no resentment for those that opted out, no problem with those who visit two or three different places, no problem with those who have been here longer than I and wish it were different.

But I for one think that is it now more respectful, more helpful and a little more balanced than it was before, with fewer in-jokes and fewer threads where we display the pack mentality that targets those with a different view to the well established EF norm.

Like I say - I like it here now and I'm gonna stay around and try to keep it nice here.

I sense a fluffy thread. Should we all gather in a circle now, group hug and sing Kumbaya?

Hey, seeing as we're lacking ballast these days, it's become a Thankathon in here. My head's about to pop.

Re: I like it here now ( about this forum )

thanks caviarchips.
maybe it is fluffy, but it's nice and thoughtful.
for me this comes after a disturbing discovery I made last night thanks to a kind forum member who patiently showed me the light (don't laugh, I admit I was very dumb not to have discovered before - it only goes to show how faithful I am to EF):
some respected members who are active here are active also on the other side, even posting on the same topic, so that two parallel threads develop. I must say I found it a bit depressing, as if it took away some value from what we all share (here or there)

so I appreciate your post (I would have been staying around anyway)

Re: I like it here now ( about this forum )

I thought this thread was supposed to be how we didn't care about other forums and what they post about us and who posts and doesn't post on which one. It seems to have done a 180 degree turn somewhere in the last few posts, or did I miss something?

Me, I don't-care so much that I can just get on and stop talking about how much I don't-care. But that's probably just me.

Agreed MN. And yet- hard when very unpleasant comments by Management on the dark side and replies have been deleted and the thread closed, no?
Such a shame, really.

No - it was about my fluffy feelings of warmth here. There was no we mentioned - I am not part of a "we"

I seem to recall that some quite unpleasant comments have been made and deleted on here before now. I think it happens everywhere.

Anyway, what do you think about the current atmosphere on EF? Compared to any of its former selves?

I think it's a bit quieter here lately (stats seem to bear this out as well) and perhaps a bit more sensible, however:
(1) these things are cyclical. Always. I'm skeptical whether this is the result of any particular collective soul-searching and upgrowing, or just the usual post-dramatic exhaustion phase.
(2) 'quieter, more sensible, fewer in-jokes' may or may not be to everyone's taste. Depends on what you want the forum for really: to find answers to questions, to meet friends, to keep you entertained at work. There's some of all three going on here normally and people with different uses for the forum probably have drastically different ideals of what it should be like. (In my experience those with the noisiest ideal usually win out: because they're posting the most, their posts eventually set the tone. It takes an extraordinarily strong-willed and unified mod team to counter that, and strong-willed mod teams usually become unpopular and are accused of 'tyranny', 'censorship' and other unpleasant things.)

Well here goes and my last Post on the matter. Yes posts do get wiped on Forums at times, but in this case it was a post from the Dark Side Master stating that he hoped his Forum would soon be the only one left in CH. And my reply that I felt the comment was a pity - both 'gone' now. Not conducive to positive relations really. Back to my book.
