| | Just click Thank You ( Netiquette Ps & Qs )
Just as some people wonder why they get stared at on public transport or accuse the Swiss of being rude, I find that often a simple "Thank you" (in whichever language of your local area) helps.
Similarly, it is customary on this forum to thank members who have taken the time to write a detailed reply to a particular question. Sadly, not everyone bothers to even click the simple "thank you" icon. | The following 4 users would like to thank McTAVGE for this useful post:

But surely that's to be expected?
It can be rather like real life: you have polite people, not so much, and downright rude.
And even for polite people, I guess it depends on the day and the mood.
I'm thanking you right now, though | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post:

Sadly, if it is expected, it is not automatic. I thought I'd give a little help to a newcomer on the forum, but no acknowlegement, so yes, a little disappointing. Thank you too for your message! | Quote: | | | | | But surely that's to be expected?

Many a time I have sent a pm or a kindly word to help a member with a problem and not even been acknowledged -
but that luckily does not happen too often - thank goodness.

As a member with a few posts under my belt, I still view the current posts without logging on, as I come and go as time permits.
I also view using a preview option on my browser, and sometimes if I think a post is worth a thanks, I think I'll return, after logging on, and do so ...... but .....
However, if someone answers a specific point that I've raised, or makes a a particularly witty or cryptic comment (which I appreciate and sometimes attempt).
I would like to point out, though, that thanks and rep points are non-negotiable and worthless when facing St. Peter at the Pearly Gates ..... as is ...... and ...... and ....... to the nth power.

What I can't help but find a bit rude is not aknowledging green rep. Am I being naive? If someone found you helpful, nice or funny, and green repped you accordingly, the least you can do is say thanks. I think it's just good manners.
PS The change in font is me being thick. I don't know what I did, so I can't undo it |

[I]I think it's just good manners. | | | | | But to acknowledge, you have to know where to look. I had no idea what the green blobs meant for a long while as I'm not a usual habitué of forums and this particular software and so didn't know about 'rep'. The thanks button is rather obvious, the rep not so much.
And it's a saner way to live when you help others without the expectation of acknowledgement as if you're helpful, usually sane people return it in kind even if your scoreboard isn't lighting up. It's a bit like a career...the management may hate you or give you low evaluations, but if you're good at what you do the people who need to know always will....or, well, almost always. | This user would like to thank poptart for this useful post:

Green rep? I first had to look at my door to check there was no man from Mars trying to sell me some "eco-banking product"!! Then I realised there were green blobs by the name indeed... the difference between you and I is that I still haven't got a clue about what they are and what to do with them...it is not contagious, is it?? | Quote: | | | | | But to acknowledge, you have to know where to look.
