| | Missing Posts
I just received an email notification telling me that there was an answer to a thread I'm subscribed to. I put the link ( http://www.englishforum.ch/complaint...-new-post.html ) into my browser, but there are no recent posts. In fact, the only posts there are old - from July!!
I realize that some may find a need to shuffle around posts and move them to where the moderator might find it more useful, but I really, really hate to have threads cut off, moved, abandoned and put somewhere they're completely out of context (just because two threads talk about bread or cars or behavior doesn't mean they should be merged, IMO). Sitting there wondering what the f... until I realize someone must have moved something and lost continuity is not how I want to spend my time on this board.
Just my 2 rappen.

Regardless, it was a growth of this thread, now it has been thrown into another thread, breaking the continuity and flow of two threads in the process - this one and the one you merged it to.

let's be frank, shell - it's more that you were in mid-reply and I'd moved the posts? Because it does make more sense to not derail an old thread mildly stolen with a casual comment about tailgating.
I mean, if we apply your logic to its full, we'll make do with one thread for everything!!

And if we apply your logic to the fullest, we would have the one thread. You'd just merge it all in there.

Huh? | | | | | Shell - that would not be spelling mistakes though, would it? It could be considered as petty - manouevre is an utter bugger of a word to remember how to spell anyway, unless you remember that it's fairly unique in that it groups three vowels together.... (taking the French origin of the word to heart) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...sh_differences
The 30-15 is almost Ming-Mong-esque ergo the tennis-like score |

Boy - aren't you two getting off-topic?
Anyway, to get back on topic. Yes it is an unfortunate part of running a forum that the mods often have to move or delete posts. We don't enjoy it, and quite frankly it's a pain in the rear-end, and it drives us nuts. To be honest I wish someone else would do it for me, or that there was no need to ever do it. You may think we are being picky, but for the majority of the moves / deletions they really are in the totally wrong place (usually involving total lack of thought / laziness on the part of the poster) if we left them in place then you would probably start to complain that things were degenerating into a total mess, you couldn't find what you were looking for, it wasn't interesting for you to follow a thread anymore, etc.
So just to clarify a few technical points. When posts are split off somewhere else and you are in the middle of writing your new post will probably go on the old thread - the mod will probably move that as well when they see it. It used to be that moved threads wouldn't matter, but now that section names are included in the URL, they might.
I generally check that nobody is replying to a thread before I move it, but it's not always possible to tell 100% of the time. I can understand that it is frustrating, but we try to correct the situation sooner rather than later, and most of the time nobody notices and just assumes that all the users are really well behaved.
In the worst case if you find that your post results in an error, hit the back button and copy your text to the clipboard. Then find the thread again and you can paste your text from the clipboard back into your reply.

The 30-15 is almost Ming-Mong-esque ergo the tennis-like score | | | | | It is only a mistake if you're trying to write in, for example, US english and spell with UK english rules.
However, you did try and maneuver my spelling into a mistake!!
BTW, I'm quite aware of the differences between UK and US (and Canadian) versions of English. I just like to "bust your chops" over it Perhaps, though, I think I come across as either snobby, a mistaken know-it-all or angry. Not intended!
As for the tennis, not a clue with it. I avoid understanding the rules to all organized sports . I'm weird like that and choose to believe that ignorance is bliss when it comes to that topic. As for Ming-Mong, please don't start speaking in the third person!
