Rules??

I thought posts only got deleted if it was derogatory, offensive or completely off topic. Am I wrong? Recently I've had posts deleted that were none of these yet a "delete happy" mod has decided that my posts deserve removal.

Actually quite p'd off with this as I don't think it's fair to remove posts for no reason.

Nah. It's decided by people with big egos that think EF mod rights equals God.

I had five posts deleted today by the new mod/teacher/leader/all mighty saying my posts didn't have any relevance.

Trust me, it will only be time before this one gets deleted too.

He also had the nerve to ask me to translate 4 words I wrote in Czech as a response to a made up word which comprised three languages, which happened only hours after the power was bestowed upon him. My response was right in line with that word, but no mention went to it.

It is a mistake to abuse a forum by anyone. Use it at will and be accountable for what we write... this I got.. but, if someone posts an Off-Topic and it turns into a discussion (which often lead in many directions) WHY would anyone want to hinder that?

Therefore... I would suggest that just because one is a "mod" it doesn't mean anything special and one should keep that ego in check.

Message directly to the mod: if you are going to delete this post, you might as well ban me as well

Ban me too.

EDIT: in over five years on EF I've had only a handful of posts deleted until today when that number more than doubled.

It's really too bad... I mean, if someone spouted the 7 dirty words (in the old days they were, now, just common place)... ok, delete at will. But, really, it is an arrogance I do not understand whatsoever. I guess some people are really just power happy

Re: Rules??

Give the poor fellows a break. It takes time, looking at the Forum 'from the back' to know what really needs doing, what is fun doing, and what is better left - especially when one suddenly realises how much junk is put on here every hour and how much gets corrected before anyone even sees it.

Fortunately most people are so busy noticing their deleted, merged or edited posts that they maybe don't notice the big mistakes a new Moderator may actually make. One, who shall be nameless, once merged a whole thread into one single post or something like that. I once merged a thread I still had 'marked' for some reason, with two other threads on a completely different subject in a completely different section of the forum - and no way could I sort it all out again. Although lots of people must have had messages saying that they thread had been moved, I cannot remember anyone complaining - but I sweated blood for a couple of days. And I merged threads - not realising that the dates would mix up the order of the posts. Anyone reading that now would think the whole forum had gone mad. Give it a day or two...

Re: Rules??

I'm a moderator on a couple of other forums (on rather more robust than this one). It's a bit like being a referee - whatever you do, someone, somewhere will disagree with it. Or if you do the opposite. What I do, is run the forums how I like - and the forum owner. A most people don't flounce, it's not a problem. Anyway, giving the members something to complain about keeps things interesting.

You have a few posts deleted, and now you want to be banned?! Your post was deleted, you didn't have vulnerable parts of your anatomy chopped off. Nobody died!

It's a website, not a democracy.

Go for a walk around the park, and have a breath of fresh air and perspective.

Totally agree and understand that. But what we are talking about is a new mod who can only fill his time deleting people's posts that are neither offensive, rude or off topic. That I see as a person with a power trip.

I would never want to be a mod as to me it seems a thankless task. But i do think they should behave accordingly and within rules and not be able to do as they want willy nilly.

I would agree but....

maybe deleting one posting is one thing, but I am guessing in that one thread he deleted 10 (5 of which being mine)

I completely agree that it takes time to grow... but, growth is an inner thing, not an outer... therefore, others should not suffer through that process

and... one mans junk, is another mans treasure... I won't speak for Crynch (ok, I will) but we put a lot of effort (*smiling*) into that thread. Then, Lord of the Rings deleted all of the posts of ours, and closed the thread, one of which has been open for a LOT longer than my participation, and appropriate conversation regarding new mods.
