Posting location of items in the for sale section

Two suggestions/questions:

If the seller is willing to ship an item, could this substitute placing the location of that item?

Could sellers be more specific about the location of the item they are selling. Putting Zürich is equivalent to putting Aargau. I am not suggesting revealing an address, just a bit more detail would be helpful, such as nearest train station perhaps?

Re: Posting location of items in the for sale section

I agree! I usually have: "Uster, Winterthur, Zurich" in order to give a more specific idea where the item could be picked up or delivered.

Re: Posting location of items in the for sale section

Many, many postings are unclear, until you have opened the advert and wasted server power, as to what the situation is. A little more information would reduce the number of searches the server has to perform.

It would be nice to have two sections. One for "Items wanted" and one for "Items for sale" and put the town or post code in the heading.

eg: "(Wanted) Sofa, 4513 Basel"

When I'm editing title to ad places, I tend to leave those with easily shippable items that don't tend to get viewed (like books, cds, clothes, etc.), so I agree with you there.

That would be nice, I think. I don't know Zurich well, I assume everywhere is like Basel or Mirfield.

What, like it says in the rulez, you mean? Yeah, I agree.

I remember panicking the first time I posted a for sale, only afterwards realising that it didn't conform. First time I used the Edit function, I think.

OTOH I'm not so bothered about more precise locations. Knowing that it's Zurich, Basel or Geneva is enough to know whether I might consider it worth bothering with. In fact the opposite is often true for me, when people use the name of some small town I've never heard of, only for me to look it up and find that it's actually a suburb of Zueri. So feel free to give more detailed location, but please include the area/city as well.

Enforcement of Market Place title rules

It would be nice if the mods could adopt a stricter approach to threads in the Market Place (For Sale/Wanted and Free Stuff) that do not include the location of the item being sold in the title.

Is it really so hard to add a [Zurich] or [Geneva]? It makes browsing ads MUCH easier by eliminating the need to open a thread to determine the seller's or buyer's location.

Re: Enforcement of Market Place title rules

We do go through phases of asking people to add the location and editting titles ourselves.

But, yeah, we don't always keep on top of it. I'll take another look later.

Re: Posting location of items in the for sale section

Thing is, we usually try to contact the seller. However, as many of you noticed, there is a plethora of stuff being sold on a daily basis. So it's quite hard to keep up...but we do try our best to enforce the rule.

Cool Previews add-on for Firefox, or EZ Preview for Chrome eliminate the need to open threads ....... unless, of course you still use IE to browse (ha,ha) or crunch apples.

Pretty much on the ball for thread merging, though ..... and probably consecutive posts.

Even on IE, if you scroll over the thread title in the 'new threads' list, you get a brief overview of the initial post (as long as you're logged in).

Re: Posting location of items in the for sale section

Lordy - so many wants and needs.

Why not set up a template that people can use? Is that a possibility for specific threads which provides people with a form they have to complete with information people on here seem to crave?

I can see the next thread: this template doesn't work for me [because I'm special], so can I have a special template just for selling ear gromets...

Your gromets are too expensive. Will you post to Basel?

Maybe it would be easier to just delete the thread (with a message, and a link to the rules) and let the poster sort it out.
