What is the secret?

Jrspet is answering all kinds of questions, provides the relevant links and this all like 24 hours per day, often within 3 minutes after posting.

How does jrspet do that? What is the secret?

I believe he has lived here some time and knows where to start looking for information.

He also has the "Let's help somebody" gene, rather than most people here that have the "Lets scorn someone and have a laugh at their expense" gene.

Actually, Jrspet is sponsored by Red Bull.
On a more serious note, 24 hours per day is when he's sick or on vacation, He usually manages 36 hours per day.

Re: What is the secret?

Hehehe, I suppose team mates, storage ( for all those screenshots ), Red Bulls, not sleeping around, lots of coffee and baby mink etc. all helps.

Too bad we can't attach images to a PM, so I will post it here in a nutshell that just about anybody on EF can be efficient and replicate them.

a) Well connected whilst on the go - I travel a bit and en route use a small lappy ( 12 inch ) with a 3G stick ( a smartphone or tablet will not quite cut it ). Having a large screen and full keyboard, it helps to post very quickly before the 3G is gone ( we have many tunnels and blind areas ). The PostBus also has a decent wifi service.

b) I open up several browser windows, and several tabs. This makes (re)searching easier. Among the useful tabs are:

Google AU: site:.admin.ch ( search for officialdom info ) - the .admin indiates that I need answers including subdomains ( eg ejpd.admin.ch )

Google translate tab: german to english ready

EF google powered search: like this - to find related threads. I suppose Mods ( 5th year as a member, 4th year as a Mod ) tend to have long memories and can change the keywords to speed up the searches. Several Swiss friends also assist me in finding information especially for a ( rare ) new topic on EF. I might search using German words as well.

An EF PM tab, a special tool tab ( known by Mods ), some tabs for special tools ( not known by Mods ) and another tab for EF new posts ( hence I get to read them fairly quickly ).

I learnt most of it from Nathu's Macbook ( he had 98 tabs opened up each time and was a damned good Mod teacher )

When at home ( or at a Data Center ), I use multiple screens ( monitors ) with multiple browsers and tabs.

Late night I do my online degree assignments ( and prepare software and hardware for work the next morning ) and multiple screens helps me to post on EF as a break.

And am pretty used to 4 hours of decent sleep

Trust this satisfies your curiosity.

Re: What is the secret?

Mods are pretty active in the background as well as in their personal capacity as a member. Privileged stats attached. Our Mod Zone's Mod Stuff thread ranks tops.

Edit: Damned - hit the bloody quota again ( even Mods are not spared of this )

We have a lot to learn, fo sho.

And, to the better not ask comment...Some people just pride themselves on professionalism, efficacy, while being modest and discrete, no street cred hunting, but working on community cohesion instead. Hat down to him.

Re: What is the secret?

Normally buried and a little dated but nevertheless a good guide especially the Google powered option in searching:

[Help] How to search effectively

Quote:
Here's the detail:
Always search before posting a new thread

Displaying results as posts, often more useful than threads

Advanced search dialogue appears after clicking search in navigation bar

Search function also available inside forum and thread views for limiting scope accordingly

Minimum search length is three letters, shorter words result in an error

Advanced search dialogue offers sort options, limiting scope by poster, thread title, date, area, number of replies

MySQL full-text search drives the search function - standard boolean operators apply, namely + - < > ~ * ( ) and double quotation marks as well as AND and OR

Default behaviour when operators are omitted is AND (or + on all terms)

When sort by relevance is used, default behaviour is OR, explicit + is required on all terms to get AND

Search terms are almost always matched strictly, choose search terms carefully, including alternatives (OR can be useful, especially when bracketed)

Knowledge of correct spelling seems to be quite poor on this forum, try a range of different related keywords to work around potential spelling issues, especially when few or no results are returned

Despite policy, non-English terms frequently used - try translating search terms for German and French words if no results.

Use Google for certain queries, site:englishforum.ch most effective
Google: use -"view single post" to show threads only, change to + for posts only
