I'm now craving a cheese and Branston pickle sandwich and all I have is some grated Sbrinz and a gherkin.

Closing = preventing anyone else from posting on the thread.

Deleting = making the thread go away completely.

Moderators are happy to close threads, but reluctant to delete them without good reason.

I hope that clears things up a bit.

I have ties with the (a) Mod, and can confirm that they cannot delete your past threads or postings. And a friend of mine told me that magic mushrooms won't cause you to misunderstand that- it just makes the statement that much deeper .

Edit- adding to DB's post above- in rare cases deletions are made, but this is when there is a serious and real need. Not just because you don't want the old posts/threads around anymore. One of the many reasons to be very careful with what you put online. And being a hermit and thus nosy I looked at a number of your old posts and can't see anything off-putting at all. You're safe.

Re: Is it possible to delete the old threads that I have put on EF?

In the case of someone having put personal information into one of their old posts, information which might REALLY affect their well-being in the future, it is possible to ask if a Mod can remove or replace the offending word or phrase. It's necessary to give the link to the post in question though and it's not a fun job for the Moderator as really he/she needs to check out if the relevant post has been quoted by someone else later in the Thread. It is also at the discretion of the Moderator and it's a good idea to phrase the request nicely.
Sometimes one can edit ones own posts, but again, one should have a good reason (and there may be a slight difference between what YOU see as a good reason and what a Mod considers to be one) and try to avoid removing content which was essential to the logic (if there was any) to the Thread.

Re: Is it possible to delete the old threads that I have put on EF?

Thanks Longbyt..............no it's really ok, it was only a general question anyway and as it has been "explained" to me...... it can't be done, so that's the answer to my query.... job done!

Re: Is it possible to delete the old threads that I have put on EF?

If we are not able to delete original posts, then we should be able to have complete access to editing them. It is very frustrating when you can't make changes or correct mistakes on the original post (ie. the title). Also, I don't see the purpose in keeping old posts around. If this site is meant to be helpful, it is not helpful to search for something and pull up a closed post.
