HELP! I no longer live in Switzerland! I no longer accept the new terms and conditions! I do not wish to receive 'occasional information, special offers and discounts from our advertisers'! The unsubscribe link in the new terms and conditions email (Sept 2011) does not work! I feel trapped in EF! What can I do?!
I don't know about deleting your account now that so much time's gone by, but at a minimum you can turn off the spam. Go into "Control panel": you'll see a row of links down the left hand side. Click "Edit Your Details" and turn off "Receive offers from The Local".

Hope that helps a little bit!

I've heard he was Dorothy Hamill's love child
Can you BE the lovechild of a mother? I thought that bit was, you know, kinda obvious?

Re: How can I delete my account?

I think this forum should be re-titled 'Forum Slagging Off' instead of 'Forum Support.' I'm so disappointed in the responses to my genuine request for help that I'm going to delete my account. Oh, wait...

Thanks MathNut for your useful snippet, almost missed it amongst the dross. (Although I had already turned off the 'receive emails' option during my hunt for a 'delete account' option).

Do you do a lot of this virtual complaining stuff? We're one big happy(ish) family here you know, we share useful hints, news and sporting and social events and each other's partners too sometimes.

Sorry, we are unable to delete accounts. However, if you do not wish to participate in EF, please simply log off. If at any time you wish to return, please feel free to log back on.

If you want to PM me (I'm one of the moderators) with your specific issue/complaint, again, please feel free.
Somebody, somewhere, if not a "moderator", is able to delete accounts. It is highly irregular and unethical not to allow the users some way of deleting our accounts.

Oh well. Regular or otherwise, that's the way it is here. Sorry.

I've been doing Internet and BBS forums for the past 20-25 years and I've yet to come across anywhere that routinely deletes user accounts.

"Irregular and unethical"? Stop being such a bloody drama queen!

If you don't want an account here, why come back as 'guest' though?

When the new Terms and Conditions were announced, they offered the chance to delete your account if you didn't agree. Those who deleted their accounts didn't get their posts deleted, however, and those posts list the user name and 'guest', since they are not members any longer.

Now that the new TandC have been in force for some time, the option to delete your account no longer stands (I believe). Though you might contact Mimi as she seems to have a workaround .
