Re: How can I delete my account?

... but you can't delete your account any more.

Not even by using that link in the email from The Local, Mimi. The "offer" has expired.

When the offer ended? Because someone did delete his account like 2 weeks ago?

In that case, The Local has breached its own T&Cs

What are these "Guest" users? Are these the deleted accounts?
I've been trying to work this out for weeks.

Thanks.

Why did they go? I really liked some of the "Guests" even if they were annoying all of the time.

Sorry, some of the time.

Somebody, somewhere, if not a "moderator", is able to delete accounts. It is highly irregular and unethical not to allow the users some way of deleting our accounts.
Seriously?

I've been on the internet for almost 30 years and I can promise you...

Nothing you ever do can ever be guaranteed to be deleted. Someone somewhere has probably mirrored it on to a hard drive.

This is as close to forever as most of are likely to get.

I understand 'unsubscribing' to services as not being the same as deleting an account. As I recall the option to delete was never a part of the actual Terms and Conditions, just an option given when the new TnC were rolled out (rather, before the new TnC were rolled out), which made sense really.

No problem.
I have been on two Internet forums before coming here, and on both this "deleting of account" and turning yourself into a "guest" was freely available. I didn't realize that it is so difficult here...

Ummmm......Thanks for the PM's from people asking me to delete their accounts but I'm actually not able to do it

I only managed it once by accident and even then, the deleted one came back

My guess is that, since the Internet is almost 30 years old, he's been using it since the beginning.

No. On those occassions you'd need to replace the "d" at the end of "wind" with an "e".

Our first computer Sinclair ZX81 in 1981 = 30 years! Our girls loved playing 'snapper' when they were little.

My brother did a Doctorate in Informatique in Grenoble in 1966! (Mind you the computers then were the size of big buildings).

No, the extract you posted is exactly the point:

Quote:
THE LOCAL reserves the right to change any or all of these terms and conditions with thirty (30) days notice.

Notice will be posted on THE LOCAL's website and e-mailed to you. If you do not agree to the changed terms of use you must request a removal of your account before the end of the thirty (30) days notice period.
Some time ago, The Local posted changes to the terms of use. Thirty days (and more) have passed since then, so the option to request removal of one's account has expired.

Yes and I remember my brother's commodore 64. But Internet as we know today where it was available to the public? 30 years?

Yes. In monochrome though (the fancy boys had orange screens).
