Posting links

I notice a lot on this forum that some members post a link as EG
as other post the complete link EG http://www.englishforum.ch/

I thought it maybe a good idea if the correct way to post links without the full http address was described to members, I created my post in MS Word then edit Hyperlink to achieve Click here is this the only way to achieve this or am I being thick and missing a little Hyperlink button somewhere.

You're missing the hyperlink button. It's the picture of a globe with a link on it in the message editor.

Re: Posting links

Personally, I like posting the entire hyperlink because it works, because it works in print too, and because it's more transparent. The transparent quality is very much in agreement with the netiquette notion that you should let somebody know what you're linking to so they aren't suddenly surprised by goatse or whatever.

Re: Posting links

the entire hyperlink gets "chopped" for display but you can see whatever you want to see if you mouse-over the link - whatever the form.

Lazy person clicks - of course you have to click first

Lazy maybe. Not very efficient. Unless I'm missing something. And I'm not a pointy-clicky kind of guy.

To create this link using the above method:

English Forum

I would either type in "English Forum" or C&P the text from the body of a page. Then I copy the URI from the top of the browser window holding the page I want to mention, click and paste the copied text into the pop-up window and click OK (actually I press return).

Or, more efficient: if I can find a page with the hyperlinked text I want already in it, I need only select the hyperlinked text, then C&P into the edit window.
