Notifications after Subscribing to a Forum?

Hi all,
Sorry if this is painfully obvious but I'm trying to figure out how I get notifications after subscribing to a forum.
When I start or contribute to a thread, those subscriptions are automatically listed and I can manage how I want to be notified of any new posts in that particular thread, but I can't seem to do that for an entire forum, eg. every time someone starts are new thread in 'stuff for sale'.
Is that possible...? And how...?

Thank you!

I don't think you can subscribe to whole forum sections though can you? I thought it was just individual threads.

Personally I can't imagine why anyone would want to subscribe to the whole 'for sale' forum unless they just like receiving thousands of emails per day.

Yes you can subscribe to a forum section, and no you don't have to receive an email for every thread. You can get an email containing a daily summary of bth new threads posted, and updates to existing threads. It's pretty useful.

Re: Notifications after Subscribing to a Forum?

If you go to the forum that you're interested in, towards the top there is a dropdown marked "Forum Tools". From this, select "Subscribe to this forum" and then select how you want to be notified (immediately each time a thread is created, daily or weekly).

You will then receive an email each time a new thread is created in that forum, and the forum will appear in your control panel so it's easier for you to navigate to. You'll only receive one notification, when the thread is first created. You won't receive anything when it's subsequently updated.

We have people that have never contributed to the forum, but subscribe to the Free Stuff forum, which always seems a bit cheeky to me.

I know about the daily/weekly update option but the OP specifically asked about receiving an update every time somebody posts a new thread in the for sale section which could potentially result in a lot of emails per day.

I wasn't aware of the possibility of subscribing to whole forums as that's not something that I'd be interested in but I guess for people looking to buy stuff it may be worthwhile.

Thanks - I thought this was what I had done but wasn't receiving anything. I've unsubscribed and re-subscribed. Hopefully that will fix it

Thanks and Happy Easter!

I've only just arrived and have found this forum to be massively helpful on many topics. I hope in time I'll be able to contribute something meaningful
