Warning / More EF Advertising Crap

If you get a popup like below, DO NOT enter your EF user name and password. Just click "Cancel".

warning-more-ef-advertising-crap-efpass.jpg

It's probably harmless, but never enter password details for something you cannot trust to be legitimate.

Sorry for stating the obvious, but it's not always obvious to everybody.

Re: Warning / More EF Advertising Crap

Just had that pop up mifield and I just closed it. Thanks for the warning though. Not something I'd click on without asking about it here first, but you beat me to it.

Probably their API is having problems. I've passed on the message to them.

Re: Warning / More EF Advertising Crap

It's weird I'm getting this only on certain threads - when I open the oil on drive one and when I go to the next page of that one.

I don't get it opening others, including this one.

I've been getting it too but only when I click on the oil on the driveway thread. As with all of these things I just ignored it.

Re: Warning / More EF Advertising Crap

I wonder if the word "Landlord" in the title triggers some sort of ad from home.ch.

E.T.A. - Opening a few more threads with "Landlord" in the title also causes the popup, so it seems this might be the case.

Yes it does. It's in the top right corner of the page and, um, says... home.ch

Well, yeah. The "wonder" part was about the keyword that triggered it, not that it exists.

E.T.A. - And it seems to be simply every thread in the Housing section. Which makes sense.

They need to fix that typo.

It's spelled homage and not homech

I am ok with EF putting some ads on to pay for the server. To be honest is this ad the perfect example of what I tolerate: discreet in some corner, no noise or fast moving videos.

That somebody however screwed up the API is typical for EF... putting a banner ad on a page is really not rocket science.

Here you go, guys:

It's for free. Haven't seen an add in months. Good for a lot of different browsers.

It's been fixed now.

But the advice still stands; don't put your credentials in random boxes.
