TBH most newbies don't search for the term "newbie" so I have edited the thread tags to be more helpful with the most common searches.

Re: Newbie Safe Zone\Attack-Free Thread

No disrespect to the classy, pleasant forum legends, seniors, vets etc. but as a newbie I'm observing this site and wondering if it should be called the Vicious Forum due to the behaviour of a few whose names are a simple give away of their personalities. This site is more poisonous then the old English medival courts.

In a day or so I figured out:

1-asking for a plumber number to unclog your toilet, or how to fill out your taxes or any other question that enables the long serving members to dish out their advice and feel important seems in general to pass without too much poor attempt at ugly humour

2 - trying to introduce a topic or open a debate is like messing with a nest of vipers. The unpleseant long serving members are threatened in their sovereignty and they start the pack hunt. Relax folks, variety is good, go hiking when you feel the pent up dread of angst of whatever cause.

3- some have become too attached to a server and you need to chill and let go, it's only a virtual forum. We are not your friend or foe

But I can understand you, I guess raking up 8000 posts it's likely to develop an attachment if wholly unnatural. ah... Right now those lake views are way too enticing than a computer screen....

Nothing can ever replace face to face contact and this is a new movement I want to start. I hate the Internet for all its negative aspects.

But if I need an electrician I may look you up even then I find some of the recommended vendors think expats are walking piggy banks...

Ciao

Re: Newbie Safe Zone\Attack-Free Thread

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, did we, Sofiab? I read your diatribe, er, post, twice searching for an actual question that we could be nice and helpful with, but to no avail.

Forced to use the material available, I came up with this: Does the English Forum more closely resemble a) a nest of vipers or, b) an Olde English medieval court?

Me, I would say "b", but others may feel differently.

Re: Newbie Safe Zone\Attack-Free Thread

Wow, guys, I wish I'd found you first ...

All hell was unleashed on me as a newbie (trying to be funny). Fatal cocktail.
Now that I'm a 'Junior Member' *shuffles-a-bit-feeling-important* I'm far too experienced to come and post questions here.

Oh, but if I had found the safe-zone first.
Now there's just one male member (I think that actually sums him up) who groans at whatever I post, however innocuous. Is that even allowed?
Can't someone tell him to get a life?

And no wonder some newbies are terrified to post on EF. I'm not thinking medieval court, I'm thinking Christians being thrown to the lions in the Collosseum!
