Oh, but if I had found the safe-zone first.
Now there's just one male member (I think that actually sums him up) who groans at whatever I post, however innocuous. Is that even allowed?
Can't someone tell him to get a life?
| | | | | There are a couple of people who are notorious for handing out groans like sweets. Tom is picky and groans everyone with whom he disagrees but also dishes out thanks in the same way. Others ( like the one you're referring to) pick on certain people and just systematically groan all their posts.
Just ignore them, they're not worth worrying about.

As you can see, the thread is actually just a drunk post from a veteran. Kind of like a pisstake..... | Quote: | | | | | I am feeling magnanimous, (no doubt due to 2-ish glasses of wine), so I think we should start a thread for newbies to ask questions free of risk of recriminations.
I'm proposing this ONE thread where anyone with under, say, 20 posts, can ask questions and we will try to be really, really nice to them. It's in the spirit of a kinder, more gentle EF to counteract the common perception that we are all a bunch of a**hats.
I'll start with one of my noob questions that I had back in 2009. "Why is the bleach so watered down and where do you buy "real" bleach?
Answer: "Real" bleach is interdit\verboten\forbidden. It leaches into the groundwater and is sucked up by the grass\herbs\wildflowers which are then eaten by the cows\sheep\goats and will ruin the cheese\butter\cream. The stuff on the shelf called Javel is the highest concentrate that is allowed and it works just fine.
What say you, evil long-timers? Can we dedicate one thread to the noobs and be nice to them? | | | | | And the evil ones are here too. | Quote: | | | | | Wow, guys, I wish I'd found you first ...

And the evil ones are here too. | | | | | Nah, if the Spouse is British, it'd take more than two glasses of wine to get her drunk.
And it came across as genuine, but maybe that's just my trusting nature.
If you think I'm evil, I'm definitely not. Funny (often), dumb (sometimes), but never evil. Defensive (occasionally).

A. I'm not a Brit. I'm a Yank.
B. It takes more than two glasses of wine to put me under the table.
C. I was just being nice in starting this thread.
D. Britething, I must have missed your first post which garnered you all the groans, but I did just see one you started about abusing the groan button. How could you possibly think that starting a thread like that when you are a complete noob, i.e. sans street cred, would NOT earn you even more groans?
E. If you have an actual question, we will be happy to answer it as best we can.

Of course it wasn't a pisstake. Is that even a word? I created the thread to ameliorate the fact that EF has a terrible reputation for annihilating newbies because they keep NEGLECTING TO USE THE STUPID SEARCH FUNCTION and asking us the same boring questions over and over and over.
This is just the one thread where we give you all a pass and try to answer your questions as nicely as possible without biting your head off. As someone said in another thread, it is the Newbie Petting Zoo, which is absolutely hilarious and I'm going downtown tomorrow and have a t-shirt made with this on it.

It's a British term derived from the expression 'taking the piss' and apparently it slips through the swear filter too. Mods !
Seriously, I get that some of the questions are repetitive, and all that. But why, oh WHY must some people on EF be so very hostile ?
First there's the 'I've got more ca$h than you thing going on' (mostly between blokes it would seem).
Then there's the 'all women are dip$hits' dynamic. ("Does your wife have a say regarding the move, if so move to the Middle East". Hello? Even in jest, that's a bit ott).
Thirdly, there's 'if you've got more ca$h than me, then you're an entitled bi+ch',
And lastly general mud-slinging.
Even for a virtual community, it sucks.
Whereas it could still be fun and informative without the b$, dontcha think?

First there's the 'I've got more ca$h than you thing going on' (mostly between blokes it would seem). | | | | | I have a country (Democratic Republic of Kenistan - DRK) with a plentiful supply of girls and boys sold into the child prostitution trade. Money is not a problem. | Quote: | | | | | Then there's the 'all women are dip$hits' dynamic. ("Does your wife have a say regarding the move, if so move to the Middle East". Hello? Even in jest, that's a bit ott). | | | | | Since independence every man or woman of voting age has been allowed to vote in the elections of the DRK. Unlike in the US or UK - even the mad, clinically insane and prisoners get to vote.
DRK has the highest voter turnout in the world.
Vote counting though is not a DRK strong point | Quote: | | | | | Thirdly, there's 'if you've got more ca$h than me, then you're an entitled bi+ch', | | | | | As per your first point - that is true. The DRK is the largest supplier of arms and munitions to terrorist organizations. | Quote: | | | | | And lastly general mud-slinging.
Even for a virtual community, it sucks.
Whereas it could still be fun and informative without the b$, dontcha think? | | | | | Following the rainy season (first 2 weeks of October) there is the Mudslinging festival in the northern territory of DRK. The 3 day festival celebrates the end of the rainy season, DRKs strong sense of competition and the beauty of the people of the DRK. DRK women take part in a number of mud events - naked mud wrestling, naked mud running, naked mud throwing and naked mud dancing.
