Well, my GD forum tried it a few years ago with a similarly aged version of vBulletin and it was a disaster. Had to roll back to the old version again. Now moved on to Discourse.
It was a joke. I'm a software developer - I know exactly what can go wrong . I've screwed up enough "simple" upgrades myself...

Saw that, donít worry.
Was interesting how the thread developed though...

I'm hoping the thread will soon be redundant and thus develop no further!

Re: Forum Upgrade to vBulletin 5?

So when many social media sites like Twitter of Facebook are considering removing the Like feature, this platform has a f**cking groan button?

Holy shit, no wonder this place is a cesspool of boomers and nobody under 30 dwells here.

Yeah, sadly the forum admins don't understand the basic concepts of how rep systems and like/groan features are terrible idea. The forum admins just likely don't give a crap full stop as long as the forums continue to tick over and the advertising revenue keeps trickling in. The Local didn't buy this site because of any form of emotional investment, it's purely business and the less time and money they have to spend on it the happier they will be. As such, I would be (pleasantly) surprised if we see any upgrades for some time.

I just want a proper ignore function that completely hides the users like so many other forums have.

Well, to my mind it's better than just having a like button as Discourse does. Okay if you don't like something you don't click on like, but I feel it gives an unbalanced view of what users think of a post. And it can be spammed anyway, just like here so pretty useless really. Neither should be available.

Oh no. Someone anonymous groaned at someone who's anonymous. Let's hope someone anonymous doesn't figure out how to view the reputation score...

Btw- the groan/like buttons are optional. They're not an integral part of vBulletin.

How about a sin bin function? Problematic posters can see the whole forum and respond to any post, even leave rep etc. - but nothing they do is visible to anyone else.

Trust me - some of us have been suggesting to get rid off the thank/groan/rep functions for eons.

But then, it is only a virtual world. A proper ignore must come from you yourself.

It is easier if you focus on the positive stuff and chip in with that. Ignore the static noise. Positive stuff makes it better here and I don't mean pity parties. It inspires...motivates. And I always like to read stuff that makes me happy for somebody!
