slight confusion...

Hi All,

As you cant tell I'm a new contributor to your forum. I usually use this forum as my "go to guy" and have not really needed to post anything here, as I've always found what I was looking for.

So, I was in a bit of a jam and decided to sign up this week and by accident, I posted in the wrong forum section. Now the issue is that, while I was looking for a recommendation for a service, it has the adverse affect of sounding like an advertisement. So the post got moved to the "Jobs Offered" section. Herein, lies a problem. This was my first thread on the forum. The forum rules state I should have 10 posts, before I can advertise. As a consequence of this thread being moved, I currently have 0 post, which was 6 (or so) before the move.

Not sure what needs to be done here, but I don't really want to cause anyone issues. I put my hands up to the mistake I made initially.

I think when the forum was set up it was intended as a resource of information and experiences for life in Switzerland rather than a free classifieds section.

There is opportunity to advertise but only for members who are showing that they can contribute to the forum in the way it was intended.

The last thing we need is a front page plastered with adverts, Ricardo-stylie.

Stick around and join in the discussions. You might have something unique to contribute to or share about expat life in Switzerland.

Simple answer: do what everyone else here did - join in with relevant contributions on existing threads for a while and get your post count up. And don't just add fluff to do so, as it will be deleted.

Also please continue to post even after you've done you're advertising - folds who just advertise and disappear without contributing more are not well thought of here.

To be fair, I use the the forum as a knowledge base. I have had very little to contribute over the past 3 years, other then what others have already posted. Seems a bit dubious for me to post several "me too, yea what he said" type posts, just to get my number of posts up.

I will try an contribute as much as I can going forward.

Where do you think the 'knowledge base' comes from? Adding your own experiences serves to add to that base, even if they're not entirely unique.

Well yes, that's what we call fluff.

Similarly, adding more posts here could be considered an attempt to increase the count by the back door, so I'll close the thread shortly.
