| | Suggestions for forum changes
Hi Mark,
I think it might be worthwhile to have a section introductions as many people seem to be opening a thread to simply say hello. I have nothing against this but perhaps if all these were in one place...

Could be some merit in that one... Maybe now would be a time have some discussions about how the forum should be reorganised?
Perhaps we could hear from some of the regulars (even if you've been here a week and you've spent some time here - you are a regular) with their opinions on this suggestion and perhaps other suggestions for other areas or reorganisation?
For example - Language help hasn't had much in the way of traffic - we all seem to be masters of the German language or just don't care about it!
Before the suggestions come flooding in I'd just like to say a few words about how I feel about the "design" goals here. I'm a big believer in fewer, fuller forums than many forums with fewer messages. Why? People shouldn't have to scroll too far down the page to find the area they are interested in, and they shouldn't have to spend all day clicking from area to area looking for messages that might interest them.
Of course as a forum grows these things have to be re-examined. For example there are 30 threads in general which have been added to in the last 30 days - fantastic!
Fire away!
Mark

Okay then I would like to see more heirarchy for example have a thread sport and then sub-threads football, hockey, skiing etc... In this way you have few main threads but do allow people to quickly find their personal areas of interest a la ebay

I'm not a fan of heirarchy - I don't really like the way it works getting to the for sale / wanted section, but your suggestion is a good one. The only question is whether there will be much chatter involving sports other than football?
But your suggestion is a good one. I'd like to get more ideas and feedback to get a better idea of how all the suggestions fit in with relation to each other before doing any reoganisation though.
Maybe we should make a forum just for lob rockster? |

Ok, that only took 16 minutes to get a response from you on a thread to which you weren't subscribed... I thought it would be faster |

17 minutes this time. Bugger.
I have to come to the site to check my PMs as BoyD seems to PM me here. It's perhaps because I ignore his emails? |

Yeah and if we are talking about football then there should be a sub-thread Arsenal and this should be closed as they actually have nothing to talk about... Also a similar one for Germany and any German teams...
Mr Rocksters forum should be open for all as he does have some points that are worthwhile on occassion and I am currently not allowed to give him any more reputation unless I spread it around a bit - any takers?!

Please let's keep this thread on topic and not allow it to denegrate into another football thread. This thread is for making suggestions about changes to this forum!

umm you mean like help and tips? Separating into a tech and non-tech section? I can imagine that could cause confusion as people try and figure out the difference?

I plan on doing an update to the reputation system, but this is quite tricky, so I'm getting my brother to be a guinea pig with his forum first my repuation is disabled by default, since it would be pretty pointless to turn it on wouldn't it?

I suggest you make a poll
you'll get some great feedback. Perhaps that could be used in lieu of your reputation.... |

Mark I concur wholeheatedly. It is an abuse of everyone's time to use the forum solely for advertising purposes. I have seen that there are some who just use the commercial section... I have no objection to people selling off their old goods or services as long as they are forum practioners. If you are going to introduce a minimum number then I would suggest they need to be members and not junior members. That makes life easier to understand and also does not specify a number per se... You also would need to check that they have not simply contributed minimally frequently to get to be a member. ie contributed bullshit like Lob Rockster and I

Mark, I also concur.
Bring something to the table before you churn out your products - and perhaps moderate it still because anyone can post 142 worthless items
And bring it on; you're confusing me with someone who gives a s**t I was bullied at school and thus I can say that bullying on the internerd doesn't hurt me.
Now where's that ignore function ... |

142 worthless items? Your counter says 194...
Ok how about this - people should post 5 messages and wait a minimum of 7 days before they are allowed to post. I'll post that in the guidelines of that area with a subject like "Why can't I post in this area??". Of course people could make 5 totally bullshit posts, but if they do then I'll just delete their posts and their userid.
So far the only other proposal we have is to get rid of language help and introduce an introductions area. How about we call it Introductions and off topic? In other words the place you go when you want to post something that isn't really relevant to anything. Or should we have an intro section AND an off topic section?
By the way - I'm going to clip the bottom half off this thread off and merge it with the previous thread where we were talking about forum changes.
