(Can't be me as the only thing I remember from your posts is that yellow staircase...) | | | | | The first rule about yellow staircase is that we do not talk about the yellow staircase On a more serious note, that's a thing with lawyers involved now, so - nothing more on that wretched staircase.
The point of my post was not what was written or by whom, but that the people reading your things don't have the whole picture and if they are so inclined, they may just construct their own. I have the attention span of a goldfish on shrooms, so I never remember who posted what, unless someone is REALLY repetitive with their statements. Likewise, I am amazed at how quickly other members can spot a troll account, it's as if they had that software lecturers use to spot plagiarism inbuilt into their brain. VERY impressive.

| | Re: Annoying trolls not banned | Quote: | | | | | [SnipSnipSnip]
Being an outright d*ck just to yank people's chains, targeting people or spreading hateful bile, misinforming people or making up stories for purposes other than general entertainment (general as in everyone understands it is not real or only very loosely based on reality, such as the tales of Uncle Bertrand), trolling - not so much.
[snipSnipSnip] | | | | | This is key. But frankly aresid doesn't fit those trolling criteria as his ridiculous reference to the Human Rights should make abundantly clear. Though much less fun than DB with his silly but oh so charming mini-stories, his made it clear his not trying to be serious.
And yes, it's people's own action that make trolls stay. This has been pointed out multiple times in that thread already. So generally, why should mods interfere as long as nobody's really hurt and at least some are simply having fun? I frankly see no reason to WRT to posters such as aresid.
"ohmy" however with his "warning to newcomers" is a different kind of animal altogether as he claims to be honest, sincere, and most of all reasonably objective. I think a case for a permaban as well as deleting his thread could easily be made but then again I'm not a mod nor can I be bothered to report him more than once.

The number and type of responses spoke to its success. I think the author (whoever that may be...), was rather proud of it. Is it worse than any number of threads on where you can get your cat shaved?

But I hear it's very fashionable these days to pluck your chicken. Taking care of your pet is very important.

| | Re: Annoying trolls not banned | Quote: | | | | | You'll find that addressing the issue and engage in discourse works wonders both online as well as in real life. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | ..... Sometime I do really wonder if even you believe the pompous and pretentious **** that spews forth from your keyboard. | | | | | Hmmm, yeah, Lib has his moments, I call it his mod mode.
You on the other hand seem to be so pompous and pretentious that you are not able to see the meaning behind the phrasing? If you did you would not "wonder if Lib believes what he wrote" as the message was simple, clear and true.
You know writing and reading is all about exchanging information? Not about phrasing and spelling? Those are side-effects?
In fact you gave a classic example of not addressing the issue, therefore discourse about something completely different (the appearance of the message instead of the message) and therefore the wonder will not work for you
So generally, when one - for example - posts a question on EF, he does that go get an answer on a subject and not to get his phrasing and spelling of the question corrected, which so many people here get instead of information. The reason for that would have to be looked at separately again .... 'don't know the answer, to cover that up I correct his spelling instead'? Or 'don't have a clue what the guy is talking about so to cover that up I make fun of his phrasing instead'?
Or of course: 'have a Reading Comprehension Learning Disability, to cover that up I pretend the writer is a show-off when phrasing things'.
In all three cases the best behaviour would probably be not to post an "answer" at all.
You're gonna tell me I went way over the top (true) and my phrasing was way too flamboyant (true) but mainly you won't understand a thing I just wrote - which proves my case. But maybe some others will | The following 9 users would like to thank curley for this useful post: | |

It has to be a young one with a tight, lithe, well-oiled body...

I used to troll Richdog like crazy, but I've mellowed on him. Looking at some of his posts, I think he's got a good heart, but just winds people up the wrong way sometimes.
As for LiB: he bought me a coffee once, so I am forever in his debt.

I simply invited people for a friendly cup of their choice in order to combat the much debated Starbucks ban thread.

At least some express themselves having fun. Others seem to have gotten outraged or even taken offense, but not until after the umpteenth repetition. So it may be argued that it's not what's been said per se but the stubbornness and ignorance exhibited by sticking to the outlandish claims.
That, in my mind, would be the problem of those who get outraged rather than the poster - if you can't get your point thru there's simply no point in arguing or a discourse in general, so you move on to greener pastures.
