| | Top threads in terms of views to replies
The View/Reply numbers for the Brexit thread made me wonder
If you derived a weighted (by views) ratio of Views to Replies what are the top, say, 10 threads (say.. started in the past 5 years) which:
a. loads of people viewed but very few replied
b. almost everyone that viewed also replied (assuming a reply counts also as a view)
Is there a pattern ?
(p.s. if the raw data were available I'd be happy to put something up on https://public.tableau.com/en-us/s/gallery)

No need for raw data. If you ask the devs friendly and they have a few minutes spare and the want to, they can simply give you the result of a simple query and you have your list.

Thanks (for me that list would be the 'raw data', i.e. data I'd be happy to analyse)
Hello friendly mods (devs ?).. any chance of such a list ?

As I understand it, the views vs replies you see when you're looking at your thread list isn't that accurate or useful. The views count every time a bot views a thread, or a person, and it doesn't distinguish unique views vs overall.
I don't know that we can separate the 208 views on your thread between slurp bots and actual users, or that we can identify unique views of actual users.
Also you're offering to extrapolate our raw data and post it on another website. I'm not sure how excited our owners would be about that given the recent "breach" issue... |

The only statistic I know about is this, but you will have already discovered it having an IT appetite: https://www.englishforum.ch/xtra/stats_by_week.php |

Ah ok.. I was wondering about the bots... some of those view figures are too big (I guess to be meaningful you'd need the 'logged in' view number)
It was just a casual thought, that maybe the analysis of the forum might reflect some aspects of expat culture.. but it sounds to much hassle for me at least...

Wouldn't every time someone comes back to a thread count as a view again? Because if each user's visit would be recorded only once (the Brexit thread is what .... more than two years running? ..... that would be a lot of control.
Imagine there would be a record saying ipoddle visited this thread 425 times. This kind of recording would not go down well in Switzerland.
Also I guess all the guests viewing are counted as well?

Looking at my list of subscribed threads, no surprises. The two biggest threads in terms of both views and replies are Trump and Brexit.
Trump - 18,000 replies and 498,656 views. Started 9 Nov 2016
Brexit - 17,105 replies and 536,831 views. Started 2 Feb 2016
In comparison, another popular thread is FWP. Only 4,740 replies and 307,513 views. Started 7 Jan 2014
I'm not sure any other thread beats those in recent memory.

It does however reflect seasonal fluctuations very well.

Brexit is heating up as 29 March approaches. Again using how I have things set up:
The Trump thread had 801 pages on 30 Sept. Today it has 901.
The Brexit thread had 756 pages on 21 Nov. Today it has 856 pages.
Brexit took fewer days to increase by 100 pages. Aren't you glad you asked? |

Still my subjective impression is explained. It probably happened the few days I was not on here so it became impessive.

I'd like to see a leaderboard of users whose replies caused people to unsubscribe from the thread. I'm sure there would be a pattern...

You've been on EF a while now, would be interesting.

Except AFAIK you can't ignore mods so there's that. |
