As I said earlier, it really shouldn't be that difficult to remain civil and courteous, even when you don't agree. This is all we ask for, and it's surely in everyone's best interests to do so.
Well that is the point innit!

There used to be more, however they all got banned.
Not actually true Some have simply gone quiet or moved on.

Those that did get banned clearly did break forum rules.
It is not so difficult to debate without including personal insults like "stupid" or "lack of reading comprehension"; to pick a couple at random.

Of course the forum rules do not cover every eventuality so need to be interpreted flexibly. Posting homophobia is not explicitly forbidden but I support the fact that some bans were issued for this reason.

Giving this thread the title "we need" rather than "I need" is rather misleading; we do not have a problem! Or at least nobody else has so far posted they have a serious "mod problem"?

Anyway earlier in this thread someone suggested a BBQ so I would like to share the LIDL one euro Stainless Steel BBQ offer.

We mostly disagree with Loz. We mostly missed him this last week. We mostly don't know what he wrote to get banned.

I'll be honest, I'm curious. He posts a lot of nonsense in my humble opinion, but unless there was a specific flashpoint, i think his baseline of nonsense is certainly below the banning threshold.

Re: We need to have a conversation about Ace1

Life's too short to get into a conversation about moderators, but I will say that I think Loz1983 is one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented posters on the forum. He certainly gets a kick out of taking the piss out of the default opinion set on the forum, but he is absolutely not the swivel-eyed wingnut that some people seem to have him painted as. If you actually bother to read what he says carefully - when he's not taking the piss out of you all - he's very much against the far right and all they stand for.

If any of you are familiar with the work of Rod Liddle, or ever read Sp!ked online, you'll get the overall picture. A quick browse through Boris Johnson's actual own words in context (not just carefully extracted soundbites) would be even more useful.

I don't agree with everything Loz1983 says, but I totally get where he's coming from. Perhaps a few of you might want to step back and take a moment to think about what he's actually saying rather than what you imagine "a person like him" to be saying.

Just saying, like.

I agree, but nobody gets banned for posting nonsense!

Usually the posts breaking forum rules get deleted so we do not get to know exactly why.

So that's why you threatened with a permaban? Funny logic that.
I'm glad you pointed out the massive contradiction.

Lets not complicate things here. The basic summary of what happened is simply that Ace1 overreacted emotionally with the ban and threats and is trying to diffuse things that it's unexpectedly been made public. Of course it's not the end of the world in any sense but I support Loz for getting this out there for all to see because sometimes we all need a reminder about what is an acceptable use of modding power.

PS: Additionally, all of the members who tend to report posts to moderators just because you get yourself worked up into a tizzy and don't agree with what is being said in controversial political threads may also want to think about the effect/influence that has on said moderators and the posting status of the member involved.

You are making an unwarranted assumption that members report posts to moderators because they simply do not agree with the content and you are also assuming without evidence that the mods react to such reports.

I sometimes discuss privately with other members about reporting posts and in such cases the reasons for reporting are for breaking forum rules, most often "are offensive and promote racism, prejudice, hatred or physical harm against any individual or group".

You are falling into the trap of believing people who say "my perfectly innocent post was deleted" when they know darn well that their post broke the rules!

I think it's important to realise that the written word cannot often convey tone nor intent, which is why choice of language is so important on a forum like this.

One may have ones tongue firmly in cheek, but that may not be conveyed and you end up looking like a shit.

I've been caught out by this many times and have adjusted my writing because my acerbic humour does not translate into written word.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about Ace to make a judgement, but MODs are giving their time and doing a good job. Do they get it right 100% of the time? Probably not, but who of us is perfect?

It's really not that exciting. The post I got banned for was:

"And you should improve on your reading comprehension if you're going to be a clever Dick."

There's disagreeable, and there is disagreeable.

Loz is merely disagreeable, certainly nothing worth perma banning him for.

I may not agree with most of Loz's views, but I wouldn't mind going out for a beer with him.

The forum I moderate only allows a little political discussion - those take up the vast majority of my moderation. I've suspended people to get them to take a step back, but only banned people for breaking a rule.
Well if you say so!
Myself I found the following post in the middle of the Brexit thread to be inappropriate and offensive but hey we are all different aren't we?

Thanks for clearing that point up.

Disappointing for those who made groundless claims that it was because someone disagreed with your POV.
