Some posts not displaying properly after others were deleted

So by coincidence I noticed something really ugly:

A post of mine has been deleted without a notification (I mentioned such a problem before).

Nope, that is not the ugly bit.

The ugly bit is (in the JagWaugh innocent thread):
When I am logged off, porsch1909 has written post 21 and Swisstree wrote post no. 22.

When I am logged on, I have written post no. 21 (my post seems still there)

I asked an other member to check, the member sees it the way I see it when I'm logged off = my post was deleted.

Therefore it is possible here to delete a post without a member knowing it was deleted, in fact the member still sees it while nobody else does!
Or rather: A post can be hidden to everybody but the poster and the mods.

I even doubt that is legal!

What it does is it changes the impression of what opinion a member expresses over all in a thread.

It is possible each one of us sees a completely different EF. I know this is virtual reality but this is taking it too far.

And because there can be a lot of fiddling done the moment this post appears (if it's not deleted while I still see it - I guess I'll have to ask a mate about that again), I've put it in pdf:

This is what I see when I am NOT logged in:

JagWaugh is INNOCENT! - me_logged_out_porsche_now_21.pdf
no. 21 is porsch1909
(mine should was between porsch's and Swisstree's)

That's what I see when I am logged in:

JagWaugh is INNOCENT! - me_logged_in_curley_21.pdf
no. 21 is my post

Draw your own conclusion

I don't see your post either logged on or off.

and as far as i recall; if your post is removed via the admincp then you don't get notified as a user.

The last post I saw from you was that you were never posting again.. The forum has started to auto-delete your history.

What happens if you play with the actual URLs ?

https://www.englishforum.ch/3062321-post21.html

Try hitting the URLs first like normal .. Then with a tin foil hat on?

Any difference?

Edit : My tin foil hat fell off.. It was ZurRol who never posting again?

Edit2 : https://www.englishforum.ch/3062322-post21.html Try that one

Wondered about that...

Well, I never said I wasn't going to check-in (always do after lunch - it's an informative and fun site). The thread has become intermediately about me, so of course I have posted.

I've been "opening" my garden so far.
Noticing this stuff and posting it here took 5 minutes.

Yes, that's the one. At least two users (plus me logged off) do not see it.

That was ZŁriRollt, not me. She posts that threat/promise every few months.
However, I take it to heart you compare me to her.

I will not do any more tests and trials on this. I duly noted it

Re: Moderating and software-abilities - this is really bad news!

curley, this appears to be a matter of your forum settings. If you log in and set to display 20 posts per page (ppp) your #21 disappears (for me), too. But if I set to 40 per page it gets displayed. It disappears for your when logged off because in that case 20 ppp get displayed as well.

Conversely, with 10 per page #11 doesn't disappear.

A common reason for this type of behaviour would be to have a condition of "bigger than 21" in one case (#21 gets lost) and "bigger than or equal to 21" (#21 gets displayed) in the other. But of course there's no knowing from the outside whether some such is the case here.

Thanks for the thought but the post between porsch's and Swisstree's is completely missing in one pdf and there in the other.
It's not the page setting in EF.

It's about the need for the pdfing I worry about...
Why???

As to cookies and cache - yep, a first thought but in this case it isn't.

Well, software abilities are one of my interests and I will definitely keep researching on this.

As a first "conclusion" I would say it is more interesting to read EF off-line as there are more posts to read
At the moment 861 people already seem to know that, while only 27 don't. Well, 26 ....

It is. Change your settings to 20ppp and your #21 will disappear. Change it back to whatever it's now and it will be displayed again. Nothing got deleted, it is disappeared by what looks like a bug as #20 is displayed as #21 as well and replaces your post.

Yes, I noticed this rather odd 'feature' some years ago, but having worked out how to get round it if I needed to I thought no more about it. Not quite sure why the OP is so bothered about it.

And as it's clearly nothing to do with moderation I hope no-one will mind if I modify the thread title?

Re: Moderating and software-abilities - this is really bad news!

Just a small bug, nothing to see people.

And Curley should not out such accusations immediately while she actually has no clue what is going on.

Just set your post count to 30 per page and all is solved.

Re: Some posts not displaying properly after others were deleted

The undemanded change of thread-titel to <<Some posts not displaying properly after others were deleted>> is utter nonsense! Interesting actually but highly annoying. There was no other post around mine deleted.
A post was not visible to mates when online (and me when off-line) until a couple of hours after I started this thread. Then, without any changes on my part, it was visible again.

I do not doubt this 'amount of posts setting' problem Urs Max found exists but in my case I did not make any changes at all and saw my post again -logged in - when I dropped by at 14.00h.

Well, it was an exceptionally interesting three days here.
Happy Easter!
