Google Search of the forum (limited results)

This is about the meager amount of results now returned from a Google search of the English Forum, NOT the standard complaint about the formatting of the results pages when using a non-touch screen pc.

For example, the following search term direct in a browser search box:

site: www.englishforum.ch pension

should bring back thousands of posts. I now get only a miserable 5 pages of which just over 2 are from the forum itself.

I noticed this when I was using other key words to search for some of my old posts. In the past, this has usually been successful.

Maybe Google is no longer interested in scanning www.englishforum.ch ?

It is not that web crawlers (of the type Google uses) are forbidden from the site because I've just tested this by adding a page from the English Forum to the waybackmachine.

the google search function of the site gives me 10 pages of results (at 11 links per page)


and yes i hate the formatting too

OK. Thanks. I now see that shows (me) a small number (5) of pages, but with this:

In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 52 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.

If accept the offer of seeing the "very similar" pages, I then see potentially many more pages. It claims to have brought back "About 790’000 results". The algorithm to determine "very similar" is very rough.

But that is not where I started. That was simply an example I tried after failing to find posts on specific keyword searches.

I was attempting this search phrase:

site: www.englishforum.ch USS Vincennes

without success, but where this keyword is used here :

What do you see with this search phrase ?

Interestingly, it is a Google restriction only. I tried the same query with another search engine, Microsoft's bing.com, and it returns the results.

I've tried with other search phrases and found the search results from Google to be very sparse on selected topics, whereas bing.com does not (yet) appear to filter these, for example:

site: englishforum.ch boeing max
site: englishforum.ch Huawei

Why are you using Google? Use Duckduckgo.com they don't track you ...

(And if you add !g to your search string you get Google's results.)
