Not having the threads visible achieves nothing as it is no problem to change IP's using software, the best defence against whichever sad and lonely ex-member is doing this is to have everyone aware of the issue and for Editor Bob to send out a communication to Swiss users asking them to change their passwords to something more secure. Passwords should be a minimum of 8 characters including all of the following:
  1. Capital letters
  2. Small letters
  3. Numbers
  4. Special characters

Example: (but please obviously do not use this example password): Password1234!

Even better if you mix them up a little or substitute letters for numbers (though it is harder to remember) like pAssW0rd!1234
Mine is

Clockerthinksshe’sbeingcleverbutsheisn’tshe’sbeing astupidarsehole.

I’d like to see her guess that one.

It's not the thread to joke around in because guaranteed at least one or two people will take it seriously and put themselves at risk.

Re: Another hacking attempt

I always write my passwords on a post it note and leave them where I can see them.

No risk of forgetting them like that!

Admins are aware of these attacks and are blocking IPs as we learn about them and report them, but there is no easy blanket way to block every attempt.
Can I ask who they are reported to please? Told my OH about this and he said the person could/should be prosecuted. Is this true? Bearing in mind that the perp isn't adverse to breaking the law...

When I had my very first computer with email, etc, my password was my dog's registration number (dangerous dog's act) which was tattooed in inch high digits on the inside of her thigh. It was also my bank card pin code for many years.

Editor Bob is the admin of this site. Mods can't do much except collect complaints and IP addresses from users and pass them on. We don't know with 100% certainty who is doing it, although we have a prime suspect. However, we don't know that person's real name and they are using a zillion VPNs. I'm not sure how you prosecute that.

don't worry hackers only use binary, so don't use Tom 01 10 11 100 as a passord.
Not so fast. It could be Tom10011010010

Apparently/allegedly it's pretty easy, but I'm the last person in the world who would know how. I'm still trying to get my head around there being internet cables under the Atlantic and never mastered setting a vhs recorder.

Re: Another hacking attempt

She’s up to 11 attempts on me today, she’s obviously got more free time on her hands today.

Edit: make that 16.

Re: Another hacking attempt

I would imagine that any VPN provider at any time logs who is using that service. How else can people be prosecuted for downloading or uploading stuff etc etc?

I´m also fairly dinosaur in this (in my country we call it digibeet) but you can find out who is behind this all. But the owner of the website needs to take action.

Re: Another hacking attempt

I use a password manager, with an easy for me to remember, hard for a computer to guess password. I don't know what my ef password is - it's a random setting of letters, numbers and symbols.

I'm still wondering how you find out about that. Got the 5 attempts email once but seems you have found something in the forum that shows all logon attempts? Where???

Every time she tries 5 times to log in without succeeding, you get an email. I also have a multitude in my mailbox,

No, there isn´t an overview somewhere of all attempts, at least not to my knowledge. Maybe an admin has access to that.

This is the number of 5 attempts emails I am receiving.
I don’t know if there is something on the forum that shows logon attempts, if there is I haven’t found it yet.

69 emails Sunday, 47 Monday, 5 Tuesday, 8 yesterday and 16 so far today. She seems to like me.

I think Editor Bob can see that, but we mere mortals can only see our email inboxes fill up with "unauthorized login attempt" messages and count how many new ones have appeared.

I've messaged EB and asked him to post here.
