Now im confused - was there a goodbye flounce post or not? And more importantly, does a duck really have a corkscrew penis?

fare thee well, DB
Yes it does, that is why you can‘t cross an American imperial threaded duck with a metric European one.

By the way amma still here.

Well you either know absolutely nothing or you're a reincarnation of a banned troll. Either way... thank you for the valuable insight.
Pity I thanked you, now I can't groan you!

Anyway, regarding the recently departed, I can assure you all that they exist in the afterlife.

I am so very saddened that several of our most valued, and valuable, members have decided to leave the forum. EF will be a poorer place without them.

So to DB, and Swisstree, and Sandgrouder, those who are still contemplating leaving, and many other long time members who have faded away:

I am very grateful for your time and contributions. You all have helped me over a fair few Swiss hurdles and brought a smile to my face on many an otherwise grey day. So thank you all, very much.

I'm sure I am not alone - many of us arrived in Switzerland similarly confused, without support, uncertain of what we had got ourselves into. EF was the place many of us finally found a welcoming soundboard and indeed a lifeline.

I wish we could get back to that spirit.

---

To the posters who seem to revel in promoting a more toxic - yes, I am using that word deliberately - tone to the forum:

Please take a moment to remember why EF exists, why it was meant to be something different from the usual gumpf out there in the ether, and read Mark's opening post here:

https://www.englishforum.ch/announce...our-forum.html
I am so sad to read that all three have left the forum. I, personally, loved DB and Sandgrounder's wit and insight. I also valued Swisstree's posts. What a sad day for EF! Great post Meloncollie!!

I don't know the guy, it wasn't about him, it was about your whinge about 'toxicity'. It's a public internet forum, ignore what you don't like.
Whinge?

Like I said, you're a noob without context (doubtful as I seem to have hit a nerve) or a reincarnated troll.

Have at it. Give it your best shot. I'll get my popcorn and my net.

Sandgrouder ...

He is (was?) one of the worst offenders!! Nothing but a litany sniping, provokative remarks! If he truly has gone then hopefully that is the start of a less aggressive and clique environment.

Just as it’s sad to see people leave the EF, but if it’s of their own free will so be it. Nobody is forced to stay or leave. Period.

It is kind-of coming-off as several speeches at a funeral where no-one liked the deceased, and is looking for something good to say. Really liked Swisstree though.

As with prior threads...

The members who have left are not here to explain their reasons - and they don't/didn't have to give a reason - it is not fair to leave open a thread that talks about them, whether the comments are positive or negative.
