You can post a post and then delete it yourself after a few minutes. DB has done this on numerous occasions in the past. It's a way of writing vitriol without getting banned.
You missed the point (OK I added it in an edit, so maybe you were too quick on the reply button) that we can still see deleted posts, or previous versions if they're edited. The hard-delete function isn't used by us or any of the normal processes like OTBC, and self-deletion of posts is no exception to this.

Okay, so did you read, or do you think that someone else (perhaps Ouchboy?) may have read such a farewell post of DB, during those few minutes that it existed?

If it existed, did anyone keep a copy?

can editor bob find the post where db comments on a similar breakup situation to a newbie?
It wouldn't be easy, perhaps not even possible, to search for such a post, given that its author would be 'guest', but it would still be visible to us.

FWIW I've manually looked through all recent posts, including any soft-deleted ones, in the Intro section and there's nothing there that matches.

No. But I haven't read his posts for some time anyway.

As every one is speculating whether there was a final post or not, and what the content of that post would be, I think we can conclude that DB orchestrated his goodbye pretty well

it happened with db farewell post. it could still be seen in the intro section.

He was smart, posting it there and then know that once deleted you are not indexed on new posts. only true vbulletin knowledge can provide that epic farewell.
So what did he say?

I misread this and replied (now deleted) thinking you meant the SD area, which used to be automatic after 1000 posts. So ignore it if you saw that post.

As a relative newbie I've never heard of a 1000 rep room, so maybe it disappeared before 2011?

With your current amount of rep points, you would not anyway qualify for such an exclusive club. https://www.englishforum.ch/xtra/rep_standings.html

Re: Mixed messages: EF deletion of posts

There's never been a rep room but the swingers club saw a lot of action in its heyday. Unfortunately, after a few notorious cases of STD infections, people became wary and the club eventually vanished.

The secret code was the wave smiley. Anyone who thanked a wave smiley was expressing interest in the club. PMs were exchanged which led to other exchanges.

Those were wild and crazy days back at the start of EF.

Remember, Ticino Tom?

Yes it was. And I saw his original name when quoted in other posts as well, which made me wonder about the software ability too.

Don‘t care about all the Miss Marpole stuff that‘s happening here, but I remember this post, and thought that it was a direct dig at a particular EF member. Think it was also my final push to leave, and just watch.

Thought it shit, but hopefully those were the old days, when times were different (we veterans / stroke legends) can still not talk about, and will probably follow us into our graves).

Such a great post! Thank you for reposting Greenmount. You know, I wrote several PMs to DB and said that I thought he should give screenwriting a go -given his wit. He told me he had no patience for that profession.

That said, I could easily see him making a "killing" on a TV sitcom - similar to 30Rock (which is what I suggested ).

I wish him, Sandgrounder (also great with words!), Swisstree, Edot and StirB well. I may not have always agreed with their views - but I enjoyed reading their responses and posts!

Of course, me neither, but the forum will be a different place without them. And less funny.
I too wish all of them well.
