DB did post an excellent flounce post

There is a 'secret' 1000 rep area on the forum

All the leavers do in fact live at the same house and gather each and every day to discuss what to post, when, and who they will argue with that day, at this very moment they are planning their new usernames and who'll they'll be taking revenge on (spoiler - its chuff)
Are there special outfits? Tell me there are special outfits. Colour-coordinated with pants over trews?

No, passwords are never stored in plain text. They might get admin powers, but they can't read which password you are using.

Sure, I agree more than 100% But that's another issue. If you trusted them one month ago, getting some e-mail alert shouldn't have changed it.

I'm sure that in the past years there have been millions of attempts to log in as "admin", "moderator", "thelocal" and so on, because that's just the horrible daylife of any public server.
Hey, I’m an IT professional right? Even the big Swiss banks have passwords hard coded into their software. Especially the ones now spending one hell of a lot of money to get rid of it.

So. please. don’t. lecture. me.

Err...respectfully disagree. I was banned (temporarily) for groaning at a mod and then arguing with him via PM. He tended to support some of the departed. Coincidence? Sure. Apparently Brexit took the better of them
I know whom you're talking about, moons ago I had some...problems with the same mod. I wasn't banned though, but he crossed some lines there. The...ahem, erased had nothing to do with his short temper. (and mine )

Granted, but internet applications tend to have much shorter lifecycles. This isn't a multi-generational COBOL behemoth, it's a public-facing PHP application with frequent updates. In this context the current version has run down the curtain, shuffled off this mortal coil and joined the bleeding choir invisible. It's been EOL for *years* - said COBOL behemoths are constantly maintained by an (admittedly shrinking with time) army of greybeards.

With this - or any other internet app - no updates for 10 years = no maintenance.

They may have patched the exploits without updated the version.. maybe..
Sure, assuming that security patches are supplied for EOL versions and/or the site administrators have the skills to understand and apply the code modifications by hand. Is the PHP version used still supported, even?

* EOL = End Of Life
* COBOL - you don't want to know if you don't already

So there are sagging pants? You're saying that there is a sagging pant scenario.

Is there a van with a logo, at least?

I don't get this topic, and the fuzz some are making.

Why on earth would we care if some users did leave?

They didn't leave ..
They merged into one super user with a single voice and unified opinion..

They are now called Guest .. You can't even ignore them and the mods can't ban them.

Is this now some kind of SuperUser?

Mods, one of you has to give an explanation why 3 long-term, very active EF members that helped build EF to what it is (dubiously or not) have suddenly and concurrently disappeared. to even none of us that care. Or it will rebound, no doubt.
