Mixed messages: EF deletion of posts

We’ve been told time and again that:

1. The only way to leave EF is to stop posting
2. Our posts will remain even after leaving

In lieu of recent events, these policies no longer hold true. DB posted a wealth of information that now no longer exists. I respect any reasons for wanting to leave but I have an issue with his posts being deleted.

Mods: please explain why some posters are allowed to have their posts deleted and others aren’t.

Thank you

Re: Mixed messages: EF deletion of posts

Under GDPR I believe you have the right to have any identifiers deleted. That's not the correct terminology.

Roegner is right, those posts have changed to guest and any rep they sent is now associated with N/A.

Douglasbreakfast's posts have not all been deleted, just anonymised.
Here is one which is clearly his: https://www.englishforum.ch/3100151-post11.html

However, his departure post (which has been allegedly seen and talked about) cannot be found.
Presumably, he did not and could not have deleted it himself.
So, where is it ? I for one would like to see it.

Re: Mixed messages: EF deletion of posts

bugger, my bad, he posted it the the Thousand Rep section, so most people don't have access to that part of the forum, a Mod will have to move it or paste it as first rule or Thousand Rep Room etc etc

Re: Mixed messages: EF deletion of posts

Not checking EF for two days and now reading this !!

I think it sad, that those posts have been changed to 'guest' for whatever reason or even,if true, have been deleted.

It is someone's legacy, someone who put in their time to help others and I think their efforts should be recognised, if only by their EF alias ....as to some readers those names still mean 'something'. Regardless if some of their posts were maybe not to everyone's gusto.

There are not many of us 'Oldies' remaining, those who knew the trailblazing spirit of the beginning and helped form and shape EF.

Here's to ALL those who steadily contributed, helped others, entertained us on the way too and are not amongst us anymore

There is a thousan Rep section?

Too bad, I really liked his colourful writing style and could always learn some new expressions from them

Re: Mixed messages: EF deletion of posts

1. This thread is not about DB specifically
2. To prevent others from becoming a victim of Rick Astley, DB did not write a farewell post nor is there a thousand rep section.
3. I didn’t know DB had become a guest.
4. By sifting through the replies, my initial question about leaving has been answered. It is possible to leave this forum by asking the mods to make you a guest. Your past posts will remain.

Edit: a mod should have made this clear.
