regies in Geneva
I have been a responsible tenant of an apartment since 1993. I am told that our Regie was sold but kept the name of the old Regie - "Brolliet". My apartment has been painted recently and the kitchen was renovated. For the past year, I have had a very strong burning smell in my bedroom directly above my bed. The smell is so potent that it burns in my throat, waking me up at the early morning hours (2,3,4 a.m.), causing strong headaches and sleeplessness. I have called the Regie numerous times but was told that there is nothing wrong. The smell has now become unbearable and I, therefore, wrote to the Regie to send a specialist to check the ventilation as I was told that sometimes a tenant branches their kitchen stove ventilator into the apartment ventilation which is against the law, and which causes smells to spread into other apartments. After numerous requests and threats of blocking my rent, the Regie sent me a bon for the ventilation experts "Perrier" to check the problem but wrote me an email that if the ventilation expert concludes that there is no abnormality in the ventilation, I would have to pay their intervention bill. The expert told me that the problem is probably caused by someone who branched its kitchen stove ventilation into the apartment ventilation and that he would need to check all apartments including the Beauty School right below me on the ground floor and the ventilation colon of the whole building which he assured me will be done the following week. This was three weeks ago. To date nothing was done and my telephone messages have been ignored. I called the ventilation expert and was told that they provided their report to the Regie and that I would have to wait for the regie's response. When I asked for the report which is my right, I was told that since they received the Bon from the Regie, they cannot provide me with copy of their report. I am a member of Asloca but they take a very long time to intervene and their intervention is costly. Any advice from you would be appreciated as it seems to me that the ventilation expert is not being honest with me.
Thank you.
