I hadn't thought to look there (it's the Terms of Use page) for specifics, but since you've raised it, there's a couple of other rules there that may be worth mentioning, as they're perhaps more clearly stated here than elsewhere and may help remove some ambiguity.

So intentional fake news is out, links to subscription-only news pages also, and potentially youtube or similar links to political extremists.

Should we start being a little more rigourous rigorous about these, do you think?
Yes please!

Yes. That was my point too.

Probably everyone is a bit too emotional these days and we don't understand each other at all. The lockdown's aftermath....

Troll.

But apparently promoting "fake news" is not considered trolling on EF, apparently is good for debate etc etc etc
from coronavirus thread.

Sorry greenmount but it seems to promote "fake news" is considered trolling and is not allowed; try not to be too disappointed

Not sure what you mean. Could you please be more specific? Are you referring to someone on that specific thread? Did I miss something "essential"?

If you refer to some people there....I call them coronavirus deniers. I noticed they are accepted. I can live with that...

Edit> Gotcha now. I'm not....you know it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi folks

Having had a post of mine deleted because it contained "zero commentary" on an included link - despite it quoting and clearly answering a request for info - I'd like to know the precise rules.

Cheers.

Mod Note: Post copied and edited to help the thread read correctly.
The rules are here.

Re: Rules on posting links please

Had a post deleted today for quoting new official Swiss Government Covid regulations - to clean up the thread. Perhaps the Mod in question should have a word with Berset and the Swiss Government, and tell them they are against EF rules?

I think that was probably because it didn’t really belong in the thread you posted it in. The new Swiss covid regulations aren’t really relevant to BoJo’s ability (or lack thereof) to govern the UK.

Re: Rules on posting links please

It was for comparison purpose with the UK situation. I think it started with 'in the meantime in UK'

Oh, and just to point out that this is not a rule as such. so we wouldn't bother referring to the team for obvious breaches of policy, insults, spam, etc. etc.
Nor should it be a rule, there are enough rules already.

It is just the sort of common-sense action that mods could take to avoid unnecessary finger-pointing and aggravation.

Of course, they can go their own way and then maybe see some unnecessary
push back.

This - it almost seems as some people are trying to sabotage this Forum. It is very quiet these days - and this sort of thing surely does not encourage more traffic.

I think it is the "of one's choice" part that causes the issue.

I understand what you wrote about the chronology.

Even so, greenmount was "chosen" to be designated as OP of a thread, without her knowing it. Se became the "owner" of a new thread she had not created and for which she had not chosen the thread title. And while that was the case (before you fixed it) anyone looking up "all threads started by greenmount" would have seen that thread, as hers - although it was not. And that is what happened to me, too, on another occasion.

This kind of decision-making, about what you will attribute to a user, can cause a lot of misunderstanding and trouble, which can be avoided. I'm glad you've found a workaround, at least partially.

If you choose to split threads, then please, beforehand, ask the poster of [your] choice whether they're okay with now having a new thread put in their name, that they didn't start, and whether they agree with the title you've chosen.

Otherwise, they run the risk of being "OP", throughout, about a topic they didn't even start, and might not want.
I wonder whether Rufus was in agreement with your assigning a thread to her.

EDIT: Oh, no! I see we've just lost RufusB, too! Nooooooo, noooo, nooooo.....
This. I proposed another option.

The thread could be very useful after all, maybe everybody should know better the forum rules.

I am very sorry too... really, really sorry.

I appreciate though that Ace1 was very receptive, even though the solution wasn't perfect for everyone...

But I don't think RufusB left because she was "chosen" as OP on this thread. There are other reasons.

Anyways, we're getting off topic again. I just had enough of all of this.

Just to share the thought that human nature being what it is then what is "obvious" to a mod who is actively posting in a thread may not be quite so obvious to a colleague?

Yes please.

However that would require that mods be well informed on, effectively, every topic in discussion. Maybe it would be more practical to enforce that upon complaint instead, provided the complaint contains the verifiable reasoning what makes it fake news?

Links to subscriptions-only sources however should keep being accepted though, nowadays they're often the only available source.
