Because it ended up consisting mostly of bickering and accusing? No idea who closed it.

Either the virus has gone away or the thread had become a pointless pedantic platform for a few people to poke links at each other and say my link is better than yours.

Not sure..

There appears to be no mandatory transparency about closing threads here. Who ? Why ? etc.

Maybe volume related - it's getting enough hits to count as a denial of service attack.

And tbh imho about as useful.

Looks like it was an accidental finger slip rather than a system glitch.

Who are these Newbies complaining about the moderation? Perhaps they should go back to where they came from.

Who are you to complain about these newbies?
It was a valid question.

I feel it would be very useful to have a serious

"Corona Pandemic in Switzerland - what you need to know"

Yes, I agree. That kind of info is available, for example, on an individual profile, when a mod bans a person. If we could see this information, each time a thread were closed, that would be a good step towards transparency.

I don´t think there is a possibility to add a comment when closing a thread. But maybe the mod can comment on the reason before closing the thread?

Often it is obvious as the OP asked for it.

In general, on the rare occasions when we've felt obliged to close an active thread that's got out of hand, we do usually add a final post explaining why.

And you're right, there's no publicly-visible comment field on the thread closure or edit dialogues.

Oh, roegner, that made me chuckle.

Yes, sometimes OP writes: "Please close this thread." I think that's what you meant.

But sometimes, I think, particularly with thread closing (and banning) a mod may decide that someone "asked for it" in the metaphorical sense. That's when, I believe, we need the transparency.

I like your suggestion that a mod who decides to close a thread write, as the last post, why they're doing so. Thank you.

Haha, I see what you mean! Yes, because OP asked to have the thread closed. Yes, that wording was definitely ambiguous
