Re: Over moderation part 2

I actually think we need to come to an understanding about what a groan actually means. Does it mean;

1. I don’t agree, but don’t take it personally,
2. I think that is rather silly,
3. What are you? Stupid?
4. That comment was inappropriate, you should be banned.
5. May you burn in hell for all eternity and may your first born child be sacrificed to the gods.

Truth is I usually have no idea what the groaner is intending to convey. Perhaps groaning without a comment why should be discouraged.

I find the same thing with 5 star ratings. It seems anything less than a 5 is an insult. I’m thinking that a 3 should mean ‘as expected; no problems; no issues’.

The serial groaner is tolerable, the other one is just mean...cleverly so, I guess too clever for the mods to delete his posts as they are not seen as an "attack".
I think you give him more credit than he deserves, it’s more down to luck than being clever in my opinion.

1 - Probably the intention, but I think its more 2/3;

4 - Here we are in red blobby turf.
5 - How dare you bring religion into this. Here's your blobbies. You've been reported.

What is egregious are the serial drive-by groaners, especially in threads with new members asking questions and in marketplace posts.

There are posters on the first thread of this page that will literally groan someone for every three posts they make; whereas others have had thousands of posts and half a dozen groans. It's the former that's really the problem here.

Is there a mode d’employe for the blobbies. I certainly can see them but I have no ‘effing’ idea where they come from.

You forgot

6 - and now I am going to ignore you and I am making a statement about it for everyone to see. Despite you being groaned by me. Which is the opposite of ignoring somebody. It is like saying "I don't want to talk to you but you make me".

Cmon, guys.. a virtual group hug.

Re: Over moderation part 2

Groans are perfectly acceptable unless they are done mean spiritedly, like many of the new joiners have experienced. What we should not tolerate on this forum is people just being outright mean, especially when they are discussing personal or difficult situations. (Chuff is prolific at kicking people when they are down.)

I appreciate the mods on this forum...my only complaint is that the ones who stand up to the bullies are at times punished more than the bullies themselves.

You have only been a member since July! However you claimed not to be able to see my replies. Therefore I groaned if I did not agree, rather than wasting time to reply. Amusingly you can see my posts which is indeed hilarious

Gone are the days (looong gone) when Mods would get drunk and ban people for fun, including each other. When Ban and Clean came along, that was like a sport, for mods with twitchy fingers.

One can click the scales icon (Adjust reputation) at the upper right corner of a post (next to the post #) to give green or red blobbies to a member.
