About 4% of my "awards" are groans. The rest are thanks. Mostly I ignore. I'll groan if I think someone is being egregiously daft or trolling. Red blobs I've given only a few. Can't be bothered with tat-for-tat nonsense.
It's an internet forum. We're semi-anonymous. So I got a groan or red blog. So my deathless prose got deleted unfairly. Nah und? Nobody died.

But....deathless prose?
It was literally a line that got deleted in the process. It was funny OP was pointing out the irony of st2lemans protesting against a groan, but memorable....? Well.
I usually ask for clarifications privately when a totally innocuous post gets deleted. I'm glad though that some mods decided to step in more frequently and clean the usual shenanigans some people here overindulge in. It shouldn't be anyone's private playground where everything is allowed (I reckon there are other platforms more suitable for self-aggrandising and pose..).
It has been restored some sort of trust in the moderating team. But hey, dam' if they do it, dam' if they don't.

In this particular case (i.e. OP) the irony was even more appropriate. Hardly a deathless prose in most cases, even less so in this particular one.
As a general rule to follow, I'd say - don't do anything to warrant a deletion of your* prose.
*"you" in general.
Hope I made myself more clear.

Just to be clear: I will fully admit that I am not unbiased and I probably would not have started this tread if it wasnt the exact people involved. I have simply the impression that some users including Chuff get away with bullying (especially newer users) and others get their posts deleted for very minor cases. You got three pages of feedback from others who seem to have a similar opinion.
I cant say that I have recognized a change in the moderation and I cannot say that this gives me any sort of trust. Not that I need trust, mostly because its an online forum and not a bank... I was actually fully ok with drunk mods banning a certain female Australian for a day or so a decade ago. Not because it was fair, but because it was fun.
But I get it now:
1. Drive by groaning is acceptable.
2. Asking a user to explain his obviously idiotic groan is not.

I groaned V___ because he didn't provide a link to the source of his claim about the attack, same as I do when anyone makes a claim without bothering to spend 30 seconds to provide a factual source. Ironically and amusingly, st2lemans has been serial groaning for years, completely abusing the system, but because it's so normalized no-one blinks an eyelid.
As for all this "bullying" stuff, yawn... it's an accusation thrown around by sensitive and delicate drama llamas to any members with strong opinions that run contrary to theirs since years, and I do not give the slightest toots about such people. I make no apologies for giving people flak sometimes, they usually deserve it, and If the mods feel I or anyone else am "bullying" then they can deal with it appropriately... right?
However, maybe people could first just go and take a look at the actual; definition of "bullying" and have a long think about it before throwing the term around willy-nilly simply because they have disagreements with people. https://www.ncab.org.au/bullying-adv...n-of-bullying/ | Quote: | | | | Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.
Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records).
Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying. What bullying is not - single episodes of social rejection or dislike
- single episode acts of nastiness or spite
- random acts of aggression or intimidation
- mutual arguments, disagreements or fights.
| | | | | In all of the years I have seen the term used used it rarely, if ever, actually applies when thrown around by the delicate little flowers on this forum. It is, and should be, water off a ducks back to pretty much whoever it is thrown at. | Quote: | | | | | I agree the groaner is a nasty piece of work. | | | | | Interestingly enough, I generally find that you can reasonably accurate judge a poster by who they are regularly thanked or groaned by. Regularly groaned by st2lenmans, fatmanfilms, TonyClifton, Full_Circle or V___? You're probably a decent sort. Regular thanked by them? You're probably a douchebag.
For example thanking FMF for that post was:
gaburko, st2lemans, Susie-Q, Talk to you later, TonyClifton, VFR on top, V__
That is like a hitlist of a few of the forums worst characters, whether it be Trump supporters, Coronavirus deniers, drama llamas or just general twerps etc. Thus, we can accurately surmise that FMF is most likely a complete...

| | Re: Over moderation part 2
by the way, negative rep and groans is not real life so why care?
unlike the negative feedback I got this year when some cheap-ass bought a sofabed from me for 1 Franc where I told him of the flaws and he then proceeded to wait 3 months before filing the negative rep on the sale.
I was furious for 5 minutes before realising his life was so shit that he felt compelled to do this.

Hard to provide a link to it, though.
