V__, you are the only one who thanked my Hitler EF video. Wasted 15mins of my time in the middle of a deadline. Either it was not funny or you gave it kiss of death by being the first one to thank it. You are really loved around here
I think a lot of people, myself included, don’t tend to click on random videos posted in threads.
You also posted it in the middle of a fast moving discussion so it got slightly lost amongst all the noise.

You see, he’s off again... passive aggressive to the max
A helpful tip - he gets extra annoyed and worried when one doesn't respond to his quite boring insults and just ignores him . He then follows you like a small puppy needing extra attention. He's my amusing pet, always there when I need it, but easily ignored if I have something better to do

Re: Mod coup

I took a multi-year break from EF, coming back around the start of this year.

The tone has changed significantly.

There have always been people who employ a certain amount of sarcasm, and frequently views expressed very strongly.

But there never used to be so many people who seem to just post on the controversial topics, which was always a sideline to the main point of the forum being a place of support and shared experience.

Taking a quick look at some of the posters on this thread, many of them are very active in the other argumentative threads on Trump/Biden, COVID, Swiss Policemen, Skiing 2021 etc.

And for many of them I don't recall ever seeing a post actually helping someone with a real Swiss problem with real information or unbiased advice.

it's the EF Christmas Special. Just like the UK soaps, they usually kill someone off to remain relevant.....

Haha, a longer living time in CH yields more experience, therefore more chances to be helpful to others.....not more active in the complaints corner

This. I've avoided posting on this thread but I had the same thoughts earlier. When I joined EF over 13 years ago it was a place to find help and advice as an international person settling in CH. Yes, there was often sarcasm and banter and even the rudest members (remember Lob????) had a lot of very useful info to share.

There still is useful info here, but it does seem that there is a small gang of members who never contribute anything helpful, they just come to argue. And EF is suffering badly because of it.

Agree. But it's probably more "natural" like this as it resembles real life. Having a space with only polite and helpful people is probably unsustainable in the real world, even more so in the digital one. Just a thought, not really a solution, I know.

Again, not a good comparison.
Schools have a whole range of options to correct children.
In EF there is only banning; there are no "less severe measures more suited to the offence". I do not see EF sending the lads round to admonish the culprit.
If a short ban is applied and the breaches continue then what next?

As was already posted, in real life suspension is used by schools.
warnings. groans. red blobs. pms. temporary bans.

I disagree. I sometimes see a forum as like a pub. And if people kept coming into my pub to fight and argue, they would be banned pretty quickly.

I think I use the EF as a diversion, actually... I'm usually sitting here writing my book and then peek on here now and then just to break my mental pattern so I can then go back and re-read what I've written with a different mindset (more objectively).

But let's face it... This place can be bloody addictive. It's designed to be.
I do that too. And I agree is bloody addictive. These silly arguments generate traffic and banning ahem, controversial users, is counter-productive....otherwise the silence from EB et co. is unjustifiable.

The very fact you are apparently obsessed with an "in crowd" speaks volumes. Want to be at the "cool kids'" table so much you'll just become one of the mean ones? Jesus. Are you 12?
Obsessed? I do not care about the "in crowd" my only issue with SOME of them is their willingness to get everyone with opposing views banned. I would hate a place where everyone would agree with me.

Oh! "In crowd" does NOT = "Cool kids" Have I been mean to anyone on this forum

No idea what you are going on about but do let it all out

Snowflake-
have an inflated sense of uniqueness, an unwarranted sense of entitlement, or are overly-emotional, easily offended, and unable to deal with opposing opinions.

Notice something, I have consistently been PRO mask wearing on this forum. I have even had 4 semi-dangerous confrontations with non mask wearers in real life, yet I don't want any anti mask wearers to be banned here. If I as a 12 year old can deal with opposing views, surely a snowflake like you can too?

P.S- I don't know you directly from the forum. Just responding to your points directly aimed at me

That's your perception and your opinion and you're entitled to your opinions but I sense a lot of projection there. As for calling people snowflakes, well that says more about you, as it seems to me that everyone you dislike or have on your radar for one reason or another is a snowflake.

While I think you and I disagree on many things, I have always found you to be polite and have no issue with you. There is a difference between trolldom and disagreements. The trolldom on this site is making it not such a nice place as it used to be. I remember a nice community with a few jerks 8 years ago.
