Dear moderator or admin:

I asked a simple question here: https://www.englishforum.ch/housing-...-payments.html

and "st2lemans" has given me a negative reputation, calling it "Dumb post of the month"
It IS the dumb post of the month!

Also, it is forbidden to post the contents of PMs and such, so now YOU are in deep doodoo!

Tom

stLeman gives reps?
Only when a groan (or a thanks) is not enough.

Tom

P.S. I did just give someone 5x green on this thread, but NOT the OP!

It is forbidden, that crossed my mind too. But it's a weird rule. "Someone just pissed on my leg under the table but I'm not allowed to tell who it was".

That's just Tom hitting on you. He has a weird sense of foreplay.

Post something about motorbikes or cooking roadkill. It's kind of like throwing a leg of lamb to a tiger, to keep it quiet.

you just made me look back at my groaned-at posts (why I did not fix the confusing wording when I installed it, I do not know) and laughed a lot.
You're welcome.

I hope the groan to post ratio is passive-aggressive enough. I want to feel integrated to society

I think it it may be considered cyberbullying is under my preception that only senior member could give bad rep, as I have never had that capacity till now and for 2 reasons:

1, stLeman gave me a red rep and groaned on basically every of my posts on that thread (7-8), it's quite special
2. papagoose has given me 3 red rep consecutively
I don't think it's cyberbullying because it is not personal. Your first thread and the latest thread are absolutely guaranteed to get you groans and bad rep on EF - even if you posted them as a well known member with loads of green.

1st was in summary "I want to claim unemployment benefit but don't like doing what they tell me"- this misunderstands the Swiss system, which is fairly generous and very strict and which has hundreds of other posts on it along the same lines "take the money and do what you're told".

Latest was "I signed a contract but don't trust the person so do I have to pay" - again, the topic of contracts being binding is all over EF and questions about how to wriggle out of them are not generally well taken unless there are clear facts of wrongdoing. Also segues into the "how soon must they give my deposit back" to which the answer is not going to change from "one year" and which is also fair game for groans.

No it's just whomever comes along. Not just groans or discredits or however you want to call it but also often totally irrelevant comments. I guess, me included, some folk aren't getting a lot of social interaction at the moment.

Don't worry. If you improve your newly-acquired greens will stay and grow, but there are plenty of other people who you've now informed that you may be someone to look out for, and who will be more than happy to give you more reds if they feel you deserve it.
Deserve it? You mean like starting a thread complaining about being given neg rep? I resisted the temptation. This time.

@neutralname - put whomever on your ignore list and you can't see their neg rep any more. And you don't see their posts.

Re: can moderator cancel the "negative reputations" given to me by 2 members?

I also think there is a certain amount of "prove yourself mentality" regarding newbies here on EF. I could be wrong but from personal experience, I remember feeling adrift (for lack of better words) when many gave me groans when I first arrived. One learns to become immune...

Everyone has their take and many may not agree with your opinion (especially in political forums which tend to be divisive). That is not to say your opinion is wrong - as you are entitled to it and others may agree with you. I guess my point is: This is a forum and there are many dissenting opinions/views but don't take it personally.

Contribute when you feel you can contribute and refrain when you don't think your input is of value. Mind you, I have been guilty of beating the drum in the past when I should have just let things go.

Covid probably doesn't help matters as Landers referenced. It's tough with very little social interaction for many. Hang in there OP!

maybe no in this case, but it is often very personal indeed- and does add to bullying, and can lead to distress for some. No longer for some either.

There's plenty of ganging up on long time members too, and backhand dealing, by a lot of people who should really know better.

Most of the time, I know when they are going to groan or red rep - but this will never stop me from saying something that needs to be said waiting for the groan or red rep is the fun part.

EF "hostility" is nothing compared to some other forums.

If you get hoofed around as a noob, it's often down to the
  • lack of evidence of searching
  • wanting to do nothing and get lots in return
  • trying to game the system which usually does not work
  • self-highlighting the woe-is-me for groans or neg rep
Blending into the background is the way to go if you're not thick skinned.
