can moderator cancel the "negative reputations" given to me by 2 members?

Dear moderator or admin:

I asked a simple question here: https://www.englishforum.ch/housing-...-payments.html

and "st2lemans" has given me a negative reputation, calling it "Dumb post of the month" and groaned on almost all my reply posts on that thread.

"Papa Goose" has also given me a negative reputation, which is the 3rd consecutive one that he has given to me. They are the only people who has given me negative reputations since I joined the Forum in 2018.

Is it possible to cancel those "negative reputations"? or is it how it works here: If somebody is "senior" in the forum he can simply give bad reputation to other junior members simply because we "give him shit" (from "the shawshank redemption") ?

Sometimes you get 3 or 4 PMs from the person about how much they don't care about the red rep.

you are absolutely right, this is why I didn't react when the guy gave me the first 2 "negative reputations".

but I find it abusive now(not even sure if it is personal against me), and weird the forum mechnism only allows senior members to do it

No it's just whomever comes along. Not just groans or discredits or however you want to call it but also often totally irrelevant comments. I guess, me included, some folk aren't getting a lot of social interaction at the moment.

@neutralname - put whomever on your ignore list and you can't see their neg rep any more. And you don't see their posts.

I also think there is a certain amount of "prove yourself mentality" regarding newbies here on EF. I could be wrong but from personal experience, I remember feeling adrift (for lack of better words) when many gave me groans when I first arrived. One learns to become immune...

Everyone has their take and many may not agree with your opinion (especially in political forums which tend to be divisive). That is not to say your opinion is wrong - as you are entitled to it and others may agree with you. I guess my point is: This is a forum and there are many dissenting opinions/views but don't take it personally.

Contribute when you feel you can contribute and refrain when you don't think your input is of value. Mind you, I have been guilty of beating the drum in the past when I should have just let things go.

Covid probably doesn't help matters as Landers referenced. It's tough with very little social interaction for many. Hang in there OP!

There's plenty of ganging up on long time members too, and backhand dealing, by a lot of people who should really know better.

Funny, this same person did the same to me as well calling me even an "asshole", for removing my car for sale from this forum a few years ago.



I do wonder sometimes what kind of "real" life certain members have here on the forum judging by their negative appearance online. I guess it must give them some kind of satisfaction.

Insecurity, lack of self-esteem- and so much more. As said, their problem. Will never bow to the kind of threat bullying by those guys (they always are).

Most of the time, I know when they are going to groan or red rep - but this will never stop me from saying something that needs to be said waiting for the groan or red rep is the fun part.

I'd look at the groans to posts ratio. I have 23 groans in 23 posts. That speaks a lot about the person that groans

If you have 20 groans on 12 posts, that's a different issue. The world is trying to tell you something. It's either a really divisive issue, or a really unpopular opinion. No more.
