I wonder when the moderarors are going to do something about the drive-by groaning in the thread by jamon8 and MidfieldGeneral, in particular. Or is this permitted now? Looks like a rather partisan approach is being taken. No surprises there.
I just looked at the groans I received for this thread

Ace1 & Olygirl with 5 each
Chuff with 4
22 yards with 3

1 of those 4 reported a member for groaning his posts, I looked at his record on my posts & decided to ignore

Maybe this is a good time to see if it‘s possible to ignore mods. I suppose a message to EB is in order.
It is possible, happened before, briefly. There is a switch to flick. It was bliss. Then some mods got upset and the switch was unflicked.

It would be nice to hear from jamon8. I've been awarded multiple groans in the past few days from him so it would be lovely to read his point of view and maybe give me a chance to groan him in return.
Here you go

On a subject: I received two red blobs with some cocky comments from these 2 people for just one post, which was not in line with their views. It would be totally fine to get such kind of response from some random psycho but in my view a moderator must be a more balanced and open minded person. So I can easily imaging what other people, more involved in political discussions than me, experienced.

And then I just follow the circus in this thread with petitions etc., which only reinforces my opinion that mod rotation is a healthy thing.

Fantastic proof you are not capable of being an objective mod. Thank you for your honesty, apparently EB took the right decision.
But you are referring to an ex-mod who like the rest of us is no longer saddled with the onerous requirement to be objective.

No it's not. It's whether you've been objective while being a mod that matters - if you're suddenly not a mod, you can be a baised and subjective as you like.

Anyway - modding is a subjective task, so in fact it's necessary for moderators to be subjective.

I've given out too much rep today. Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow.

A well balanced mod should have a chip on both shoulders.

Re: Mod shakeup

I'm with the Moderation Rotation idea. After all, it is an anagram of Doormat Orientation, which is of course what all mods should have. Coincidence? I think not.

What a bizarre thing to say.

I think most people can do a good job without letting their personal opinions affect their conduct.
I’ve had the misfortune to have worked with plenty of dickheads over the years but haven’t let that affect my behaviour towards them in the workplace.

Nice! It is amazing how much more bearable this place can become once you start using the ignore function. aka The Automatic Bullshit Filter.

It's like putting a virtual muzzle on a belligerent chihuahua.

(No offense to chihuahuas).
you do realize there are exactly two people who you can no ignore who previously you couldn't? And one who you can no longer ignore who previously you could?

Sorry, I just had to groan you once. Glad you've popped in and made your opinion known. It's nice to put a face to a groan.

Edit: By the way, I'm totally against mod rotation. Too many opinions, too many new things to learn and I really don't think there are enough posters who would want to do it.

Re: Mod shakeup

I think the other factor in the forum is the fact that the internet in general has become more aggressive; anonymity makes some people braver than they'd be in real life. They'll write stuff they'd never say face to face with someone. Passive aggressive is becoming the norm sadly; there's no need for it, but people who do it think they're clever, superior, funny, cool, whatever. What they really are is just pitiful human beings who have nothing better to do.

And on this same thread, you have groaned Ace1 five times so far, and me four times.

This is the point at which one of your delusional cronies should be stepping in and saying "but moderators should be objective! They can't go groaning people!"

I don't think you're going to last long in your glass house, fatmanfilms. Your true colours will come through and you'll revert to your normal, abusive, stalking, bullying self—while whimpering about "unfair treatment" whenever somebody calls you out. You're incapable of taking a dispassionate, detached view and will show your biases in no time. You just can't help yourself.

What a load of hogwash. This is something that happens on the forum on a very frequent basis and I am not aware of this 'rule' being implemented before. Compounded by the fact that I cannot add you to my very short ignore list, which I would dearly love to do to save myself from your poorly thought out rambling psychobabble.
I'm a little confused. Was this post directed at me? If so, I don't get the relevance of the post deletion that you quoted (from nearly four years ago).

Anyway, the "no serial groaning" rule has indeed been enforced many times—your case is just one example. Just one of thousands of moderator actions that you never see.
