Maybe there's a lesson to be learned.

the better they work the less you notice their utility and the more they kinda cause their own demise.

This thread reminds me of Orwell's "Animal Farm".

I have a feeling this place will end up in a lot worse place due to the latests changes, but well, time will tell.

Good luck, FMF!

Disagree. EF was made for posting, hence why it has limited media capabilities. The only way mess can be stopped is by those certain EF members having a little humility and dignity and in some cases, to grow up and deal with their covid blues/boredom situation themselves instead of taking it out on others.
And mobbing passive aggressiveness, well, very hard to stop that isn’t it …because I class that as mental illness. But at least it’s obvious where that’s coming from.

Meanwhile, in the last day or two on this supposedly useless forum....

1. Constructive discussion of the latest round of initiatives on Swiss agriculture and terrorism continued
https://www.englishforum.ch/swiss-po...ml#post3317572

2. New user Macsikcaz was given useful advice on working remotely while still living in Switzerland
https://www.englishforum.ch/business...itzerland.html

3. User Rico09 offers a car roof rack that he doesn't need in return for a small donation to at charity of your choice (rather than selling for a profit)
https://www.englishforum.ch/items-sa...-zollikon.html

4. Lots of useful advice dispensed about how to buy back UK National Insurance contributions, helpful for maximising potential pension payments
https://www.englishforum.ch/insuranc...ml#post3317211

5. I and others learned some useful tips for how to hang pictures given the sometimes impenetrable Swiss concrete - I ordered a Hilti product recommended by a user based on this thread
https://www.englishforum.ch/housing-...ml#post3317481

6. More positive thoughts from the "I smiled because" thread, always appreciated ...
https://www.englishforum.ch/daily-li...cause-192.html

7. User Catdog gives a comprehensive and useful applicant diary for his normal naturalisation process to becoming a Swiss citizen
https://www.englishforum.ch/permits-...ml#post3317609

8. Good info on Covid vaccine and travel pertaining to Switzerland and flights
https://www.englishforum.ch/family-m...ne-travel.html

9. Useful Swiss salary counter posted: https://www.englishforum.ch/employme...r-uss-sgb.html

....

It wasn't hard to compile that list and I could go on and on. This on top of many recent helpful threads I can recall, including offering support to people facing difficult divorce or domestic abuse, taxation help, support for pet questions, people facing difficult legal challenges, help with schooling for new arrivals .... and not forgetting the treasure trove of useful information from thousands of historic threads.

This forum continues to be helpful and wonderful in many ways and all of us on this thread would do well to remember that too.

....

Oh, one last one.

10. In the introductions section, we have a new signup, Hotspurs FC, who has just arrived in Baar as a childcare professional, tells us he likes Tennis and would like to "get to know a few others around here."

I'm struck that this mod change thread has 600+ posts and yet, only one user -Sigh (thats his user name, not an ironic comment) - has welcomed Hotspurs FC to the forum and to Switzerland.

I've noticed that it is not the first time Sigh has welcomed new users - I'll be giving him some rep now. If you want to welcome Hotspurs FC, play tennis with him or make a friend....

thank you krlock3. To newbies here (and by that i mean in the last decade) pls just ignore this thread, continue to use EF, don't be afraid to ask questions etc. EF has been through worse - it can't get much worse than the passing of Mark (RIP) and other members (personal ones to me Begga, Jagwaugh) We've had members meet through here - gotten hitched, had kids, some got divorced. Life goes on.

Re: Mod shakeup

Yes, the EF will get past this. If I had a CHF for every existential crisis that the EF has experienced over the years, well, then I would have a pocketful of CHF...

And changing 1 or 2 or all the Mods is not going to change human nature. People bicker... some people love to bicker. Others love to provoke and watch the bickering. Some of the Mods enable this some of the time. Some don't even show up.

At the end of the day, people can click on threads or ignore.

PS - Off to give Sigh some rep!
