I don't use any of those sites, but I could see how someone might prefer to use those sites to keep in touch with their real friends in the real world over conversing (and arguing) with strangers in an online forum. It seems that with those sites, though, a lot of people are more concerned with getting "likes" and "thumb's ups" (i.e. validation) than actually keeping in touch with friends.

The site does have a monetary value, it generates advertising income and has operational costs to run.

If you want to get the attention of the business complain on LinkedIn or Twitter and they will notice.

If you are determined to force change do what happened last time but didn’t work in the end, start a rival forum. If nobody posts there is no drive to come here and the advertising revenue will fall, which ultimately is what matters. Views don’t really count for anything, it’s about business.

Note I don’t promote any of these possibilities, I’m just giving an opinion.

Exactly. Everyone makes what they want out of it. It's such a vast part of the internet with so many groups and users that it's quite silly to say who's hanging there. Even this social media site that is EF is/was pretty diverse. (more like an echo-chamber of a sort now but each to their own)
