| | Re: Misogyny on EF? Let's discuss
I given only 2 groans in 12 years here.
Both were for bad behaviour towards women or demeaning thoughts about women that I felt was totally unacceptable.
I also get ticked off if I read somebody calling a woman a sl*t.
No way, not allowed, just behave.
And I’d feel exactly the same if it were a man who was receiving abuse or being diminished.
Abuse leaves a mark on people.

The definition for misogyny is: dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women.
I see far more misogyny on this forum than misandry but I would never go as far as to say it doesn't happen.
To me, the idea that male posters here are dismissing any misogyny and then complaining about misandry is clearly mysogynistic.
(I never thought I'd write a sentence like that ) | | | | | I find the concept of dislike or contempt for anyone very alien.
It's an interesting subject, which I had not been following on the forum till now.

Tom | | | | | Isn’t it just a fact of life - you men are just, well, irritating. At least you get paid and prioritised for it.
Us women are paid less for being irritating.
Luckily we women got the vote here in Switzerland. In 1971, 65.7 % of (male) voters approved the right of Swiss women to vote and stand for election at the federal level - Yeeeehhh.

| | Re: Misogyny on EF? Let's discuss | Quote: | | | | | A story from my online Jassing days (Swiss card game).
I use the same nickname but, of course, 99% of the players are Swiss. For some reason, "girl" comes across to some men as an invitation for sex. I've been propositioned a few times and when I reply that I'm only interested in playing Jass, they quit the game.
I never thought my nickname was so suggestive. It comes from a marketing campaign for Olympia beer back in the 70s. It also refers to the place I come from. | | | | | That’s dreadful. But even in my retirement years and thinking back - some Swiss (male and female) are drawn to the openness of ex-pats. It’s something really new for them.
I personally would avoid (regret) such contacts again. Women in Switzerland only got the vote in recent history.
Speaking from a “girl” that came here in 1986, now retired .
And I don’t really think that the majority of the male Swiss population here have quite adjusted yet to the idea of females being equal (but they are finally getting there, pretty quickly).
This is however a site for people coming from other countries - and here I see the same pattern increased, it’s true.

Yes, there have been a few isolated incidences of misogyny on EF. No, it's not a serious problem, and certainly doesn't warrant its own thread!!

There is also a track record of anti LGBTQ+ on this forum. I reported a specific post that still stands which is viewable also by non-members.
It would be a shame if advertisers on this site were to become aware that their products and services are advertised on such a site.

True, they are weird.
Depressing, what does that say about my love-life in the past?
It's funny to me how it's often said "he doesn't like me because I'm a woman" or "he doesn't like me because I'm pink".

Please give some examples of where she has been hounded in the last two or three weeks (you wrote 'is' rather than using the past tense) or perhaps you ought to retract your inflammatory post?

There was this from today which raised both eyebrows. No point in posting it all but here's a taste : | Quote: | | | | Lets be clear that MC has zero interest in moderating this forum in any sensible way. During her years anyone who has been here to watch knows that she has actively encouraged right-wing propaganda, scientific and non-scientific misinformation and pretty much the full range right-wing fringe lunatic crap you can think of. While she doesn't always come out with direct written support, all you have to do is look at her not-so-subtle trail of Thanks, given insidiously to so many of the forums worst offenders. Thanks are a great way to see what people really think, and if you pay attention to them you will see that there is a core selection of notorious members who repeatedly thank each other throughout specific themes and topics where we see the worst kinds of posts. | | | | | | The following 2 users would like to thank parnell for this useful post: | |

Please learn to use the language you post in :
1. To pursue relentlessly and tenaciously: The suspect was hounded by the police for weeks.
2.
a. To make repeated demands of or subject to persistent criticism: Her parents hounded her until she agreed to look for a better job. See Synonyms at harass.
b. To pressure or force from a place or situation: accusations that hounded him out of office.
In addition it is certainly personally insulting and therefore in violation of the board rules.

As others have said, one post isn't hounding. | Quote: | | | | | In addition it is certainly personally insulting and therefore in violation of the board rules. | | | | | It wasn't personally insulting. It was pretty factual.
It was describing her inflammatory posting style which, in my opinion, she has toned down in the last few weeks - which is perhaps why she hasn't had posts criticising her (apart from one yesterday).
