This is classics.. there's always someone who doesnt even like the topics, doesnt like the new people around, would not get involved anyhow but is not lazy therefore they'd bother logging in and opening a thread, clicking reply and saying "hi mates your forum sucks.. no good. Before it was better. Now I dont even want to join you here" ...
so, who says the forum wants you? then, you're not the same person as 5 or 10y ago, we're not the same either.. On top of everything I seriously believe how this covid has totally changed us, some are more depresive, some are more aggresive, some became preechers, lesson givers, others became bitter or sad..
Sometimes it's some nostalgia.. it's like "oh I'll open the forum and I'll have topics and fun people as I had back then" but back it was a different story, you maybe just came to CH and were lookig for a flat and bars and boat rides.. now some are even retired so obviously have other intersts
at other times people whine about EF topics like "this topic is too stupid" as if it is difficult to just simply ignore it. I'm sure if we have a topic about -sex- so many will watch but with all the hidden options possible and just pop in from time to time to say "yuuuck you guys went so low" ) I bet.

| | Re: Misogyny on EF? Let's discuss
I've been active on the EF, on and off, for the past 10 years or so. To be honest, I can't really remember a time when people here were consistently decent to one another. I think the problem use to be aggression directed toward "newbies" more, though (not sure). But the hostility here in general definitely seems to have become worse in the past few years.
Sometimes I think this place has a way of attracting people who enjoy arguing, whether they realize it or not. I don't know... But if you find that you're often wasting time on the EF arguing in circles or that it puts you in a bad mood, I do suggest taking a long break from here. Every time I've done that, I find myself feeling so much better and focus my time on doing more enjoyable and more productive things. And then if I do come back, it's easier to keep a distance from it and not get sucked into the madness. | The following 7 users would like to thank Pancakes for this useful post:

Pancakes, yes but then again are things in real life any different??
If you hang around with some friends... then dinner, agreeing disagreeing.. imagine they're anti-covid like me? and you cant even just shut down the tab, switch topic or groan
I've been stuck with some boring dinners and afternoons and I really think how here's much more fun. You can activate your neurons, fight, laugh, shut the window when you feel like it whereas in real life omg.. that can be a real torture.

And I don't particularly enjoy arguing, so I don't intentionally put myself in those situations.

I LOVE a good, intellectual-exchange argument, no matter the topic. But in EF (as well as in many other online forums), things get heated out of proportion, way faster than I like. It's like being behind the screen turns most people into snappy teenagers. I'm too old for that kind of stuff, and bar a few exceptions, I tend to stay away. Therefore I never noticed any significant misogyny around here. I'm NOT going looking for them either. | The following 4 users would like to thank Caleb for this useful post:

| | Re: Misogyny on EF? Let's discuss | Quote: | | | | | A story from my online Jassing days (Swiss card game).
I use the same nickname but, of course, 99% of the players are Swiss. For some reason, "girl" comes across to some men as an invitation for sex. I've been propositioned a few times and when I reply that I'm only interested in playing Jass, they quit the game.
I never thought my nickname was so suggestive. It comes from a marketing campaign for Olympia beer back in the 70s. It also refers to the place I come from. | | | | | Ok, just to put that into context: online jass rooms are the darkest corner of the Swiss internet... a long time ago did I work for a company which besides thousands of other telecom services operated the largest online server for Jassing: it was well overrepresented in support and moderation effort. So much so that the guys working in support had a wall of shame with the best complaints and customer interactions printed out for everyone to see... my favourite was a written letter to the telecoms CEO complaining that the moderators banned him for insulting another player with pretty harsh words... "I only said this after reto123 called me a huere siech as well". Written by a guy who was clearly older than 12, most likely over 60 actually.
