My red blobs, always from same people, seem to have magically disappeared whilst I was away, bar 1- a miracle
My red blobs are from people I couldn't care less about, I could picture angry internet men frothing at their mouth.

Tell a hunter that you've seen a huge deer - problem solved.

Ha, deers are beautiful and noble creatures though. I think the comparison is very unfair to them, even as a joke. lol
Use the ignore list, and report to the mods when it's getting too much.

I don't mind some spicy words or the occasional remark that some could feel is offensive. And I certainly won't report it.

I do mind hypocrits who pretend they are so much above the petty offensive trolling etc. - but then throw insults in private.

Name and shame is very effective.
If you are referring to me, then I have thrown shade very openly on the forum when I feel it is deserved, and I have no problem with it from a moral perspective. I have also left snarky comments via neg rep, again when I feel it is deserved, it's never just random.

No hypocrisy or hiding anything here, I definitely have done all of those things to people that write crap and that I feel deserve it, and definitely cannot discount that it will ever happen again. I definitely appreciate the new civility of the forum as there is now less mind-numbingly stupid crap to trigger people, and yes I do get triggered by such things as conspiracy nonsense, anti-vax and COVID misinformation. I look forward to being triggered far less by that stuff than before.

If you have a problem with something I always suggest to report it to the mods and let them deal with it. It's what they are there for.

Why not put the snarky comments on the Forum, rather than in neg rep? Why hide them?

Re: Steps for reporting abusive rep messages

The last red blob I got was "twaddle. Not capable of critical thinking". All I could read from that was that the red blob giver was talking about himself and didn't want to be embarrassed on the public forum.

In fairness, as Chuff admits, he does it in both places openly and in private - I don't see the issue.

All we can say for sure is that said Rep giver isn't too original in their insults as I am another who got a carbon copy of this

I think the red button and groans primarily serve as an outlet for the passive aggressive, those too lazy to formulate a counter-argument and those who wish to bully and exclude. Anything that breaks forum rules can be reported to the mods. In the 14 years I've been here, I've groaned someone only once - a post that no longer exists and doesn't show in my stats - and have never used the red button.

That was precisely the point of my post stating that the Reputational and Groan buttons should be removed! There is at least one abusive P**** here whose finger seems to be permanently attached to the groan button. This person was one of the reasons I left this forum years ago, and I see he's still here and up to his usual tricks.

Re: Steps for reporting abusive rep messages

To sum up the previous pages:

If you receive an abusive private message, use the report triangle to report to mods.

If you receive an abusive rep comment, send a private message to mods and ask them to take a look (there is no report feature for rep).

Better yet, members could simply stop sending abusive messages altogether - whether that's on the open boards, via PM, or via rep.
