Of course, it's so tight it pushes your eyebrows down against your face.......second time I feel the urge to apologize today in the same thread

Re: Forum gone quiet?

These past few months I was more of a lurker than a poster, simply because I couldn't be bothered to enter one of the endless Covid-related debates, and I couldn't find anything useful to add to the mostly meaningless other threads. Who care about my opinion on this or that Mod?

I enjoy helping people and sharing infos/ideas/comments, and it looks like we're getting there again. I miss the time when we'd meet IRL too, and simply go on talking about what had started online.

This... I think when a forum reaches the point where you can actually count "lefties" against "righties" then it's not a place for me anymore. There is enough of that in real life and I'm trying hard to escape from that mindset.

For me, talking of wall sockets and Swiss laws can be a boring but welcome relief.

To be fair, most of that was happening before too.

Although there were two distinct groups butting heads all the time. Based on observation, 50% lefties, 40% righties and 10% like me, in the middle or fluid based on the subject.
Except it’s more like 5%, 4% and 91% with the 9% making all the noise and disrupting it for the rest, even if they did broadly balance each other out. Now it feels a little out of balance with that 4% decreasing. Even though I refuse to get involved in any of the more controversial topics, the lack of balance makes me less inclined to post unless my interest it piqued (like smoking wood for example).

Re: Forum gone quiet?

For me it's a vast improvement. Although I don't live in CH anymore, I'm still involved in 2 businesses there and have many friends there who post here. For a while I almost stopped posting completely, it was tedious how many trolls were just flaming by giving contrary opinions with no basis in fact.

Now, it's more like the forum I joined 14 years ago, and I'm much happier to post experiences and advice. Keep up the good work mods.

Re: Forum gone quiet?

I think a point that people are either unaware or skip is that: back in the late 2000s /early 2010s the regulars actually new each other and met @GG viadukt spot.

as time marched on, users join into this dynamic where we used to diss each other thinking it was the norm and it just escalated to the point were there was more dissing than events/regular meetups.

I am happy to see GG posting here again. it's a good omen in my opinion. (we just need the prof and wolli to post again, and we are back)

Almost worthy of a groan. Barely in my 40s! God the beer was terrible there.

It was OK at the time, but awful the next day. I believe it was definitely the quality of beer (Turbinerbrau if memory serves) rather than the quantity.

Re: Forum gone quiet?

I'm a newbie around here, and I have certainly found the forum helpful for a wide variety of questions. Moving to a new country is challenging, and I'm very appreciative of the people on here who generously share their knowledge and wisdom with others.

I know nothing about the backstories or politics of EF, nor do I want to. I could see there was a lot of emotion in the last few weeks leading to the big change, which is not necessarily a bad thing - emotion shows that people really care about it.

For what it's worth from a newbie perspective, I have appreciated the kinder tones and more knowledge-sharing in the last few weeks. Some of the hostility and aggression that was displayed before the shake-up was off-putting, and although I've stayed out of it, there have been times that I've hesitated to put up a thread asking a question because I didn't want to get abused for it (important note - I've not actually experienced any abuse here myself, but seeing it happen to other people does make me question whether I want to put myself in that position).

Talacker days - beer was awful but the crowd and the dogs on the wall were memorable. moving on - weekend drinks improved things - i'm just sayin'

I joined 14 years ago and like GG I don't live in CH anymore but still have a lot of ties - daughter and SIL in Geneva, and an apartment up in the mountains.

I had wanted to post several times on various topics but to be honest didn't want to be in a position where I would be made to be uncomfortable and that would probably have made me want to leave.

I still remember fondly meeting up with so many members over the years at various events - it was so much fun to put a face to the forum names and I hope that in the future I will be able to do that again ..

As someone who is 61 and recently diagnosed with cancer, I find that comment insensitive in the extreme.
