Mods are human. Imperfect, unlike us superhuman posters who can do no wrong. | | | | | Very true. I had to laugh with this thread, as so many true colors showed up on it, showing that things/people don’t change very much.
A couple of posters suggested that I give Biro some Japan advice. I’ve had Biro on ignore for a while, and I looked back to see why. It was the A1Coppet Closed thread that had a comment from him that appeared to be the final reason I blocked him. I wrote a comment there, and it necroed the thread. A moment later, I decided against the post, but couldn’t delete it. So I edited it, removing my comment mentioning him. BM immediately groaned it - she seems to groan me fairly regularly - but I didn’t respond publicly. A few days later (Christmas night my time, early Boxing Day Swiss time, I guess), I received a neg rep from the same regarding that thread. That neg rep included a question, so I responded. Apparently that led to my tit for tat ban. I saw this thread, and noticed the players involved and the eventual devolution into bickering and took note of who made it better and who made it worse.
It’s all very silly.
(Edit to Ato:
You asked on that thread why it was necroed. It was an accident more or less (as I couldn’t delete the post that necroed it, so I edited it. It really didn’t have any ulterior motive, and at the time I didn’t feel it necessary to explain, I’d just let the groaners groan. Of course then I got the neg rep days later - along with the same question you wrote on the A1 thread. If you genuinely want more explanation, I can PM you. Otherwise, yup, just EF silliness.

What I find most amusing about this resurrected post is that recently Biro tit for tat neg repped me, in that he was was quite explicit he'd only done it in retaliation. I warned him that such behaviour is frowned upon and could result in a ban, so probably best avoided. But that I really really don't give a toss about such things.

A ban is a ban - not the end of the World |

To be honest I’m finding Matty’s obsession with me rather creepy and unhealthy.
I have never denied giving him the groan or the rep as I found it in very poor taste to necro a thread about a fatal road accident with a post of that nature.
If he couldn’t delete his post himself all he had to do was as ask a mod to delete or make a comment saying ‘sorry posted in error’ or something. Leaving a cryptic post which looked as though he was having a go at another poster in that thread was incredibly inappropriate in my opinion.
I’m having a hard time understanding why anyone would make such a big deal about something so totally insignificant on an internet forum. It is baffling me.

I’ve actually asked other mods if it’s permissible for me to put you on ignore. You have had several goes at other posters, including the one that started this thread, and others who have messaged me support/similar stories over the past day or so.
Since the mods haven’t been able to respond for various reasons, I’m asking publicly, Is it permitted on EF to put a mod on ignore?

So now that MattyRedSox has once again opened-up the little dispute that we’d all since otherwise long forgotten about having the memory span similar to a goldfish (a ban of 24 hrs - get a grip MattyRedSocks ), I would like to know the thread / post in question of course …

Although they are no longer Mods - so perhaps the software has been updated in the meantime . And you can believe me when I say that the Mod team we have now is a totally different kettle of fish (they have spent enough time in Switzerland to learn from others mistakes I guess )

I very rarely give out groans but suggest that people maybe try harder to "think before you groan." I mean, just because you don't agree with something something says doesn't mean you need to groan them for it.
And if you don't like someone, maybe just try to ignore them and keep a distance rather than trying to be passive-aggressive by groaning their posts.
It's true that groans are meaningless, but that doesn't change the way our brains can perceive or 'process' them. The "thanks" button here is also meaningless, for the most part, but our brains still process them as a dopamine hit.
I've also had the experience before where someone here was constantly groaning my posts simply because they did not like me. It's what I call "targeting." And even though the groans themselves didn't really bother me and have no real value in the real world, it's nonetheless annoying when you feel targeted by someone here.
I still think that groan function should be removed. It doesn't really seem to serve any kind of purpose that benefits anyone here or this forum in general.

It doesn't really seem to serve any kind of purpose that benefits anyone here or this forum in general. | | | | | As a poster that mostly only contributes to those types of threads that provide information to a poster that may not be able to find information on the net unless they can do an informed search based on living here since many years and / or personal experience, how would you then suggest disapproval of a poster that hasn’t bothered at all to read either the OPs post(s) properly / look at their background, or just provides drivel and above all mis-information or anecdotes in reply, in order only to get their 2 cents in - once the thread has long since been answered?
Posters that get by on “International” threads or just following the herd on popular threads survive here well and get their rep from there. And that’s fine.
But it’s not necessarily why most newbies first look to EF for advice (and many / most of the newbies lately have been not serious at all). EF hasn’t been taken seriously as a source of information in the past (I know that from working in large companies), and that potential seems to have changed a bit recently.
So, what is the benchmark you would use to measure?
