So technically, the ban hammer should have been applied to others as well - itís very silly, and selective.
You seem to have a problem with the conditional tense. "Could result in a ban" does not mean "will result in a ban".

You also seen to find it hard to understand that moderation is necessarily a subjective activity. That doesn't mean selective.

We tend to be holistic in our view. For example if someone indulges in tit for tat neg repping and is currently a pain in the neck, then the chances of a ban are somewhat higher.

Do not meddle with the mods. They are quick to anger and not very subtle.

As a poster that mostly only contributes to those types of threads that provide information to a poster that may not be able to find information on the net unless they can do an informed search based on living here since many years and / or personal experience, how would you then suggest disapproval of a poster that hasnít bothered at all to read either the OPs post(s) properly / look at their background, or just provides drivel and above all mis-information or anecdotes in reply, in order only to get their 2 cents in - once the thread has long since been answered?
I see your point, but I guess I would just comment instead (rather than giving a groan). I mean, if someone sees misinformation given to someone here that was asking for CH-related advice, I'd hope that person would comment to offer a correction rather than just giving out a groan. That's one of the reasons I don't give out groans very often -- because if I see something here that I don't agree with THAT much, then I'll usually just comment about it instead. Anyways, so many of the groans here are given for opinions, and I think many people easily mistake their subjective opinions for objective facts.

The groan function here seems to be causing a lot of problems and misunderstandings, so that's why I thought maybe the EF would be better without it. But that's not my call to make, and in all honestly, I don't really care if it stays.

It's funny that Ticino Tom had groaned my post where I had suggested removing the groan function, though. (Where's that spank button when you need one???)

Neither do I give out groans often, unless well deserved due to repetitive and repeated nonsense - and prefer to rather try it through a comment. However, that means that any actually relevant answers given to a poster asking about living in Switzerland (I believe the reason for this Forum) are completely drowned within the thread of bickering. How should a new poster be expected to understand or see what is relevant in any of it?

For the non-living in Switzerland / political / Brexit / forum etc threads, then that’s fine. They can all groan and red rep each other as much as they want

You are a mod, can you answer the question, are we allowed to put one on ignore? I've seen conflicting answers, but not one from a mod yet. Thank you.

Yes you are allowed to make the attempt. Whether the forum software allows it, I have no idea.

It's not a case of being allowed, it is simply not technically possible to block a mod for obvious reasons ie: a moderator role is privileged and they have been specifically chosen to represent the forum so in theory you should not be able to ignore them. It's easy to try it, so I am surprised if you haven't tested it yourself.

I can confirm however that if you have a member on ignore before they become a moderator then the ignore stays when they become a moderator.

Indeed.
Moderating on a forum is no different to any other position of authority within this world: their powers, however trivial they may be, can on occasion easily be misused, either in a 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions' kind of way, or intentionally by those with fragile egos and/or insecurities. People are people.

However the forum moderation is now in a FAR (x100) better state than it was a year ago when it was dominated by a few narcissistic psychopaths that shall remain nameless, so lets thank our lucky stars for that.

I have had to put someone on ignore because someone's outright misogyny is somehow OK to the mods, but tit for tat groaning results in a ban ...

The thing is being a mysoginist and making mysoginistic comments isn’t actually against forum rules so unless they make such comments directly towards somebody or are rude and insulting in the comments there’s not much we can do about it.
If they do do that then the posts need to be reported to the mods.

Repeated drive by groaning or tit for tat rep comments are against forum rules and are just bad netiquette and could result in a ban depending on the circumstances. Sending abusive PMs is also against forum rules and won’t be tolerated.

PapaGoose and Stlemans do that all the time.

Is it a case of selective modding?

Or, are the circumstances different for these too and, in the name of transparency, why?

Other Tom is active in the Forum, and he gets his fair share.

The one that confuses me is Sodabubbles, who has groaned 10x more than the number of posts they've made.

I wouldn't call them drive-by groaners as they usually add to the narrative. For me, a persistent groaner is someone who starts a topic and when they don't like the replies, consistently groans. Or there are some posters who never post but suddenly appear through a series of groans without commenting.

Obsession with you? Iíve actually asked other mods if itís permissible for me to put you on ignore. You have had several goes at other posters, including the one that started this thread, and others who have messaged me support/similar stories over the past day or so.
Since the mods havenít been able to respond for various reasons, Iím asking publicly, Is it permitted on EF to put a mod on ignore?
No idea how people like this get on in the non virtual world. You know, in reality where you have to deal with things you may not like or agree with

Because majority of the time you are infantile in your reactions and seem to not have the faintest clue what a difference of opinion entails - did you live in a commune/cult previously?

In the span of 12 months you repeatedly ask inane questions that are easily searched in the forum or wade knee deep into tit for tat spats. Perhaps you should take up a hobby where you can sharpen those social skills & at least develop a bit of backbone

So I guess calling women "lazy" and "stupid" is acceptable? As I reported that comment and it was completely ignored.

I genuinely don't care about groans etc., I just don't like seeing a respected member get banned for annoying a mod and regular hate speech towards an entire half of the population is somehow accepted.

Belgianmum didn't write "persistent groaner", she wrote "drive-by groaner".

PapaGoose doesn't add to the narrative when he groans - especially newbies - he mainly just groans. He just gave me loads of red rep too just now so I'd call that retaliation for my comment on this thread.
But that tit-for-tat is probably OK.

Sure Stlemans adds to the forum too but there are threads where he adds multiple groans without a post on the thread.
That's "drive-by-groaning" - which Belgianmum just wrote wasn't allowed.
