New EF ads.

Not sure if others are seeing the same ads on EF as I am. At the moment there is a huge ad offering to assist students from high school to PHDs to cheat. For a thousand bucks they will produce a dissertation.

While I doubt there will be much interest I am disappointed with E F for even entertaining such ads.

Nice that someone notices it. I don’t get any ads at all due to my ad blockers.

It might have to do with the recent EF activity:

Mine too. Both Ghostery and Proton VPN didn't block it - rarely happens.

Not all ads are retargetting, many are simply direct placements, general geo-tagged, or purely shown to look-alike audiences. It's impossible to tell which targetting system they used.

Unless you meant that as a joke, and it totally SWOOSHed over my head.

I also don't watch ads but anyway, what a scam, must be a cheap web page spitting ChatGPT garbage to poor idiots

Yes, same here. Never had ads before. This one about help with 'papers' - aka academic cheating, comes up all the time.

Same here, somehow it got through the ad blocker. I haven't seen an ad online in years otherwise.

Re: New EF ads.

It got through the ad blockers as it's not seen by the ad-blockers as an advertisment. It's not a body of text but just a (clickable) image imbedded in the EF home page.

Adblock+ - I see no ads.

The thing is, EF are using an ad server. They have no control over the content. Occasionally, some of the legitimate ad sites are hacked and someone else's crap is put in place.

As much as I hate to defend the admins who can't even be bothered to update the software, this probably isn't EFs fault. It's probably not the ad server's fault. It's one of their clients with crap security.

Re: New EF ads.

It appeared on my screen, too, but I'm running Adblock and it allows you to nix the ad if you right click and select "hide ad". Completely gone now.

Re: New EF ads.

People still use Adblock+? I thought everyone jumped ship when they sold out and started letting advertisers buy exceptions in the ad blocking.

I'm pretty sure uBlock Origin is currently the best ad blocker, it also does the job of ghostery.

Also, if you're using Firefox, going into about:config and enabling "privacy.resistFingerprinting" gives an additional level of tracking protection.

I use ADP+ghostery - and still have it. Noticed it yesterday, and thought "that's odd"...

Doesn't even "feel" like a normal advert; this feels a lot like someone changed the vBulletin footer and is pulling in an image from hostingkartinok

Re: New EF ads.

AdBlock+ now allows for "preferred" advertisers to get through, I suppose that's okay but I don't know how trustworthy it is.

Brave Browser does a great job blocking ads, I almost never see any, the only ones on EF I see are the ones on the home page which are served off of the Local's own servers (i.e., they're as much a part of the site and the forums are).

Firefox with NoScript is probably the best way to run securely, but it's a little tricky. Add uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger and you should be good to go.

And for what it's worth, I don't see any ads here except for the few on the home page that come from the Local.

Clearly not everyone. And I've never noticed any adverts on the sites I visit.
