May 8th was the official 1st birthday of englishforum.ch. Unfortunately I was busy and forgot all about it. So let's all join each other in wishing the forum some belated birthday wishes.

Let's have a quick look back at what happened in the last year:

285 members and 3000 messages.

I think we should avoid measuring our sucess purely by numbers, but more along the lines of whether people find this a useful resource.

By the time the 2nd birthday roles around I think we'll see some exponential growth. The reason for this is because forums always start slowly until they get to a critical mass. I think we reached that critical mass during this first year, so let's see what happens for the second!

I have some plans for the second year in terms of finding new ways to promote the forum, but I'll post about these when I get time

Congratulations Mark, good job.

It is very hard to get a "stand-alone" forum up and running, I know I have tried also. Getting a forum to the point of "critical mass" is the hard part but I think this place is already there.

It can only get better from here.

I'm really sorry for all the pain I've caused.

It really wasn't my intention.

I really thought I would be interesting... you know:
A moderator (with who i talked a lot) a lot of years ago say that its the first anniversary of this small forum and he says that we would see many more anniversaries and and 3 years after it it became the biggest forum for english speakers in Swizterland and i was thinking if he could ever imagine that (in that time) so i thought it was would be interesting to reply to that message...

Its pretty much like quoting Obama, when he was a teen, saying that we would like to become a Senator and ask "Do you really think you can make it" ?

Anyway, I'm really trully deaplly sorry....

Well done for clarifying your post. I recommend you also go to your groan post to let the people there know that it was a misunderstanding and that you have posted this update. Provide the link too. I most people would be more understanding that you didnt mean it the way it came across and might even remove their groans for you.

Like I said in that post, they were mainly reacting to your post here.
