Adverts on EF

We now have advertisements on EF. Any comments?

Re: Adverts on EF

Where?

Oh yeah. Seems pretty innocuous. Wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out, and if it funds the EF a bit then why not.

Actually I recall that when the forum went to it's current "owner" that adverts were likely to happen.

Nope, I don't see them either.

If they are pop ups or similar I've got all that jazz turned up to the max and they would probably be blocked.

Re: Adverts on EF

I hadn't noticed TBH. But just seen one on the home page which I rarely visit. As long as we don't get flashing banner ads at the top of each page I'm not too fussed.

Re: Adverts on EF

Just checked but didn't see them, it really seems time for a new pair of glasses... can anyone point it out for me? Pretty please with sugar on top...

Edit: Ha, just found it, thanks

Righthandside above the Birthdays on front page. I think they're up since Monday.

Re: Adverts on EF

I can only see one on the home page (bottom right) and you can click on an arrow to hide it.

I do think though that there could have been an announcement about it.

Re: Adverts on EF

I've not seen any adverts at all.

On a completely unrelated note, I've just booked a holiday in Stockholm. Never really considered going there before but suddenly it seemed like the right thing to do.

Cheers

Re: Adverts on EF

Aha! I think I may have found them - or found where they're supposed to be anyway.

Go to the home page and look at the far right column. Just below the "My Settings" box, and above the "Today's Birthdays" box, there is one labeled "Advertisements." Mine's still empty, but I reckon that's where they're supposed to show up.

And it looks like you can just minimize the box to avoid seeing them... classy! If we're going to have ads this is the way to have them.

(Kudos to the admins as well for retaining the lengthy but dialect-neutral "advertisements." If we ever find ourselves in need of a Mathematics Corner I hope the same courtesy will be extended.)

Re: Adverts on EF

I have adblock on Firefox. Couldn't see anything. Tried Safari, and sure enough...

Now I feel I have to go visit Stockholm. Nice that the keywords recognise that Switzerland is not Sweden!

edit: ok, I clicked and see that it's for thelocal - fair enough

Bring 'em on! It's time to buy some products and services I neither want nor need. The 2010s is the new 1980s.

Note to Admin. I think it'd be better if when clicking on the ad you're taken to a new tab or window

Yup, it's kinda against the grain to be swooped out of the current (fabulous!) site, close the (offending) item and Lo! There's my desktop...

good point and i believe it's been brought to the attention of the powers that be

Have to say after clicking on the ad and seeing another ad on that page of some beautiful islands and clicking on it here - I now want to visit too - talk about powerful advertising, Sweden is going to see an influx of EF tourists
