Concerning all users - Should time be limited to edit your post?

Yeah the edit limits suck and even for regular members there is a limit that stops you updating older posts with new info. It's a stupid restriction that no other forums I know has.

The rules on editing were updated after this thread had been active for a while https://www.englishforum.ch/714063-post139.html. Looks like they may have been modified again than that as well, as I don't think the 100 rep point criteria for unlimited editing is valid any more. I'll update the sticky.

The groan doesn't seem to have anything to do with your lack of edit capability, and certainly nothing to do with you reporting the post, which is exactly the right thing to do in those circumstances.

Thanks for that. The mods have graciously fixed my posts and even combined the two into one so I am no longer feeling quite so inept.

Where that groan came from remains a mystery, given it appeared when I "reported" my post I guessed it was related to said "report".

Shame to hear about the miscreants that appear, a sign of the times where social media really doesn't seem all that social.

Anthony I suggest developing a thicker skin and not giving a rats ass about thanks and groans from anonymous people. In real terms they mean less than nothing.

The only groan you have is on a post from last year, so could not have been added as a result of current activity. It's possible that you got another one on a post that was subsequently merged with an earlier one, but no record is kept of that.

Nah, there wasn‘t a groan on that so no idea where that could have been.

I appear to be able to edit posts that are 10 years old.

OK, so maybe it's still as it was. I was running an experiment from a test account to check it, but you've made that redundant, thanks.

Edit: Having said that, I did just follow it through and can confirm that the >100-post limit on editing older posts is still correct.

What about posts that look like they were written by a 10 year old. There are plenty to choose from on EF.

Your groan was from St. Lehmans in November 2020. That's a great sign of fitting in as he groans everyone on here!
